Hey, need a little help

My son's friend Veronica received a diagnosis of breast cancer today. They're not boyfriend/girlfriend but she is a close friend and a very sweet girl.

Lynda is going with her and her mother on Friday for a full body scan to see if it's spread. She had cervical cancer a few years ago and also lost her father to cancer just a couple years ago.

We're trying to support her best we can. She only has her mom who is not really emotionally equipped to deal with this after losing her husband. Unfortunately our son is out of town for work the next three weeks so he can't be here for her.

If you could think a kind thought or say a prayer for her we'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

She will be in our families thoughts and prayers.

I hope she'll be ok Hank. I'll say a prayer for her and her friends and family.

Thanks, as I said she is a sweet girl and has endured enough the last few years. This needs to turn out well for her.

Prayers sent for Lynda Hank.

Highway Star 10-26-2010 09:27 PM

Prayers sent. Sorry to hear that someone is going through this. I know enough about losing loved ones and illnesses (terminal or not) to say that I don't wish this or anything similar on even my worst enemy.

I hope she hangs in there.

More prayers on the way.

Update on our friend Veronica. Body scan shows the cancer has not spread but she does have a large tumor. They're going to put in a shunt for administering chemo, they want to reduce the size of the tumor before surgery. She'll lose her hair and be sicker than a dog but God willing she will be a 'survivor'.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

Prayers and best wishes for her .Cancer is a mean disease that we also know all too well,Im glad she has friends like you to see her through her tough times .

Hank70SS 05-10-2011 08:17 PM

Well it's time for surgery, this Thursday. Veronica has weathered all the chemo and tried to keep her spirits up. Lynda will be there, to support her. I may go as well but the surgery will be 6 to 8 hours long, not sure about leaving the dog that long since the hospital is an hour from here. If you would, a few kind thoughts or maybe a little prayer would be appreciated. Like all of you she's a good person and deserves our support, thanks.

Prayers and support from here, just had a sister inlaw go through the same thing. Know how it effects them. I wish you and your family the best during this time.

Hank,
Veronica has been in my thoughts since your first post. I think that you and your family are wonderful for being there for this young lady. She is lucky to have all your love and support. Please let us know how she is, and tell her that there are a lot of people thinking of her.

FlintTony 05-11-2011 05:36 PM

Best of luck Hank.

Hank70SS 05-11-2011 07:15 PM

Thanks to all. She is a strong young lady, I'm sure the surgery will go well and she'll be able to move on with her life.

Surgery started at Thursday, 1:30 PM t, Dr. came out and talked to Veronica's mom Friday, 2:45 AM. Told her Veronica was doing well and she, her mom, should go home because she would be in recovery for several more hours. She didn't get into a room until after 5 AM. They removed both breasts and the underlying muscle, took muscle from the back, below the shoulders and moved that to the front the reconstructed the breasts with implants. I don't know much about it, I guess the muscle they moved is not used much in women so it won't cause a problem. Haven't heard much from her mom today, it was a long day for her and Lynda but I guess she's doing well. Thanks for asking, maybe we'll take a ride in and see her tomorrow if she's up to it.

EDIT: Lynda just talked to Veronica's mom. She's having a lot of pain and still groggy but doing well.

She is still in our thoughts and prayers ,Joan went through brest cancer over 18 years ago and she is now cancer free .I wish Veronica the same as I did for Joan all those years ago.

Hank70SS 05-14-2011 12:54 PM

Thanks John. I'm glad that Joan was able to beat it and remain cancer free all these years.

Ms Grumpy 05-14-2011 02:02 PM

Thank you for the update Hank. I pray for the best outcome for this young lady. It sounds like she is someone special.

Hank70SS 05-23-2011 06:47 PM

Meant to post this on Saturday but forgot. Veronica went home last Monday, well to her mom's house but out of the hospital. Pain and soreness but doing pretty good.

This Saturday there was a cancer walk in Detroit and one in Garden City. Veronica decide she was going to walk the final 'Survivor's Lap' in Garden City. After they parked they had to walk close to a mile just to do the final lap. She did it! Sore, tired but she did it, 9 days after 13 hrs. of surgery.

You guys can have your Superman, Batman and Spiderman, this young woman is my new hero!

flash 05-23-2011 08:08 PM

Mine too after that.

Hank70SS 05-26-2011 07:48 AM

I'm asking again, hope you don't mind. Veronica is back in the hospital, she has an infection. Surgeon is going back in to clean out all the areas they worked on, that's a lot. She needs to catch a break soon.

Ms Grumpy 05-26-2011 02:56 PM

Hank I am so sorry to hear about Veronica. I will keep her in my thoughts. From your post is sounds like she is having her surgery today.

FlintTony 05-26-2011 05:36 PM

Tell her that we are all pulling for her. Good luck.

Hank70SS 05-26-2011 07:08 PM

Surgery was today. I had a dentist appt. back in Livonia this morning so Lynda went with me then we went to the hospital. Sat with Veronica and her mom until they took her to surgery around 3:20. Dr. said he was going to go into the breasts, flush things out and remove the implants. After things healed up more they would put the implants back in. When he said he would remove the implants Veronica broke down, said she didn't want to look like a freak. Guess that was probably the final straw along with everything else. We stayed with her mom while they did they surgery, couldn't let her sit there alone and worry.

I guess Veronica did catch a little break. They went into one side and couldn't find any signs of infection so they flushed it and left the implant in. Same thing on the other side. He wasn't sure what caused the fever and spike in white blood cell count but he said everything looked good. He was worried that one of the muscle flaps they moved was dying but said they were both fine. They'll keep her in the hospital on IV antibiotics a few days to make sure any infection is gone.

Hopefully this is just a minor set back and she can start moving forward again.

flash 05-26-2011 07:52 PM

Still in our prayers .

Ms Grumpy 05-26-2011 08:49 PM

Sounds like things are looking up for this young lady. I am so glad that they didn't find any infection, and the few days in the hospital may be the best thing. They can keep an eye on her and make sure she is good to go. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

Hank70SS 06-08-2011 03:41 PM

I just wanted to thank you all for prayers and kind thoughts. Veronica is home and doing pretty good. Last week they took the staples out of her back where they removed the muscle. That's good because they were pretty painful. As I said, right now she is doing as well as can be expected, thanks again.

Hank70SS 06-17-2011 06:22 PM

Me again, asking for your help. Apparently there are 2 types of cancers, well I'm sure there are more. Veronica had a 'something' positive type in the breasts and chest muscles and a 'something' negative in the lymph nodes. The chemo that kills one, feeds the other. Her Dr was at a loss of what to do and stopped the chemo. Veronica said we're not done and I'm not giving up yet. They contacted a cancer specialist in N.Y. and suggested to restart the chemo and do radiation, lot's of radiation.

This is not good. I don't want to call this a death sentence but it's damn close. It's not fair, she's in her early 30's and been through so much already and still is one the sweetest people you could ever meet, not fair at all.

Ms Grumpy 06-17-2011 07:38 PM

Awe Hank, I am so sorry. Veronica sounds like an amazing young lady. Her body has been through so much already. David and I just lost a friend because of the same reason. I am not saying this to get you upset, but our friend decided not to do the chemo. He didn't want any of it, he was also a lot older than Veronica.

From what you said it sounds like Veronica is up for the challenge, and from what you have said about her, you will be there supporting her in what ever she does. My thoughts and best wishes for her to make it through this round of Chemo and radiation.

Thank you for keeping us informed of her progress. And if you need anything let us know, or give me a call.
