Would you call it a Chevelle (or what?)?
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...t/IMG_0591.jpg
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...t/IMG_0582.jpg I just do not understand why people, governments and outside enities feel a need to fix something that wasnt broke!!! |
I would call it a Super Duty Beaumont and I would love to have one.
|
Is Obama requiring all Chevelles to be re-named?
|
It's technically a Pontiac, that looks a lot like a Chevelle. When we went to the show at Frankenmuth this year we saw one. It was parked close to Tony and Ric. I have some pics of it in my Frankenmuth album.
It is actually a cool looking car. |
There was one right next to us in Frankenmuth this year and between, Tony, Hank and Ray we spend a lot of time talkimg to the owner who just a had it restored to factory specs. One of the things I thought about it is that the engine bay was the same color as the car. As soon as I get on my other computer I'l post them.

That's a Canadian Beaumont SD, Sports Deluxe. Debatable as to whether Beaumonts were a Canadian Pontiac model or a separate GM car line altogether.
The Sports Deluxe is along the line of the Chevelle SS. Came with with a 396 and other features of the SS. We parked right across from one at Frankenmuth Autofest this year. Very cool car, a few styling differences here and there that set it off from the Chevelle. Actually the styling is very nice and a little upscale from the Chevelle. Very rare car and probably worth a fortune. The one at Autofest, convertible, was absolutely perfect, looked like it just rolled off the line. |
I guess I type slower than the other people here, still a very cool car and would love to have one.

I want one, OK maybe two !

I am just curious why the good folks to the north take perfectly good cars like the Chevelle and distort it into something else .... the Acadian is another example of Cannuck plagerism! LOL Why not just leave well enough alone??
|
That white vert is a real nice car. The owner was alright too.
|
May as well be a Chevelle with the Chevrolet drivetrain. I think as far as the guys at ACES are concerned they are Chevelles. Wonder why GM did that though. It would be nice to get one of them as an Import. OK you guys got me! AN IMPORT I'D LOVE TO OWN!!
|
There were Canadian Pontiacs in the early 60s available with Chevy 409s in them.
|
We have some friends in Canada who have a 66 Beaumont ,they are the original owners too .Their car is beautiful and they dont trailer it ever ,they drove it down to the Peachstate Aces Regional Show last year .They have done a complete frameoff restoration on it and it has all its original drivetrain and body panels and never had any rust as it was always stored inside .It is big block powered and 4 speed to boot ,he ordered it with everything you could get on it .He originally wanted a Corvette but couldnt afford insurance on a performance sportscar but found out thet the beaumont was considered a family car and insurance was affordable. They also attend the Northern Ohio Show most times except last year.
|
I would have loved to have seen your friends car, flash.
|
Good looking car, can see the pontiac emblem on the front between the grills though. Has SC tags, must not be around my area I would have definitely noticed that driving around.
|
The Beaumont is a stepchild, an orphan if you will. Pieced together with some odd parts, all GM, but a mish mosh of this and that. Not all Pontiac, not all Chevy.
|
WOW, I have never heard of this car. Very cool. Like someone already stated. Must be very rare. Thes cars were only available in Canada?
|
I'm liking the colour
|
That car is cool no matter what!!! eh! I can say eh because................................ "some of my best friends are Canadian"

Sorry to bring up an old thread. The car pictured is mine.
1970Turtle, I live in the Greenville area but have had the car at a show in Charleston. The emblem on the front is similar to the Pontiac spear but it is a little different. It has the Canadian maple leafs above the spear. The Beaumonts are not Pontiacs. There is nothing in the owners manuals, sales brochures or any other GM released literature that mentions Pontiac. Also, the VIN on Chevys starts with a 1, Pontiacs starts with a 2 but the Beaumonts starts with a 7. Most Beaumonts were sold in Canada but a few went to other countries. I'm not sure bout other years and models but there were 702 1968 SD396s built with 680 being sold in Canada. They could not be sold in the US. James |
And to add to Jame's post above ,his car is absolutely stunning .Weve missed seeing you this year James but understand you have to work when you can.
|
Thanks John but I think you are losing your short term memory. :D We talked a few times at CB11.

x2, I would love to have one. |
The cars were built by GM of Canada on the same assembly line as the Chevelles. They started out in 1962 as Acadian Beaumonts based on the Novas. When the Chevelles came out in 1964 the Nova based cars became Acadian Cansos or Invaders and the Chevelle based cars were Acadain Beaumonts. In 1966 the Acadian part of name was dropped from the Beaumonts but was still used on the Nova based cars until 1971. Not all SDs, Sport Deluxe, were big block cars. In 1966 and the first part of the 1967 production year the SD package was an appearance package and had small blocks as standard equipment. About half way through the 1967 production year it became a performance package with the 396 as standard equipment. There were no 396/375 hp Beaumonts built. There were less than 2000 big block Beaumonts built. There were only a little over 74,000 Beaumonts built from 1962 to 1969. It is generally accepted that about 10% to 15% of the Beaumonts are still around.

Those of you who have never seen Jame's Beaumont in person ,you really need to .That is a very impressive car and it sounds very mean. Its also the first Beaumont I ever saw in person and I'm always willing to listen to James to learn more about them. They are very unique and very cool cars ,there were more of them together at the NOCC show this year than Ive ever seen before. As far as what they are officially called ,I call them a Canadian version of the Chevelle even though they are a stand alone car called a Beaumont.

Just cruisin through old posts and enjoying all the reading.
