ThinkCure & LA Marathon
My daughter will be running in the LA Marathon next March. She's running to raise funds for ThinkCure which supports research for childhood cancer cures. She's never run a marathon before but has started training so hopefully she'll be ready.
If you can spare a dollar, or any amount, the link below will take you to her page on the ThinkCure website where you can make a pledge. http://www.thinkcure.org/site/TR?px=....&s_tafId=1113 You can also mail a donation to the following address. Please write her name, Susan Shenkosky, in the memo line of the check. ThinkCure! Re: LAM 9420 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 300 Beverly Hills, CA 90212 |
Hank,
You raised a good kid. She is running for a great cause, and you can count on me for a donation. It may be into December before I can make the donation, but I will send something. For everyone else, we need to keep this thread alive, so keep posting to it. We all need to realize how lucky we are to have healthy kids. I hope you will keep us informed as to her success with this. Nancy |
Thanks Nancy. I'm sure she'll finish the marathon. When Susan put's her mind to something there is no stopping her. She just started training and is running around 4 miles a day.
Guess we better start looking for plane tickets so we can be there. |
I would say so, this is something that as a parent, I would not want to miss. You must be so proud of her.
|
The marathon has started, wish her luck people. She's been training for months, doing 18 miles on Saturdays. I hope see makes it to the end.

How did I miss this post ,I would have donated a few dollars . Good luck to her.

No update yet? I'm sure whether she finished or not she's exhausted. I hope she did it, she doesn't handle defeat very well. Either way I'm proud of her and all the work she put into preparing for it. She's never run a marathon before. Worked a 12 hour shift at the hospital then ran for miles or the other way around.
Wish we could have been there but she only has a couple of days off. It's a lot of money to fly out there just to see the race. |
Update, Susan just called and she did it! :banana:She's exhausted and freezing, 50 and raining there the whole day. I knew she would do it, no stopping that girl when she sets her mind on something. She's just shy of 5' tall so that's a lot of strides for those short little legs. She even finished before her friend Carlos who was also running the marathon.
In case you can't tell I'm kind of proud of my little girl. |
Congratulations Susan !!! And Hank, we are all proud of her. What an amazing thing for someone to do. She gave so much of herself to help others. You are a lucky dad !!

I never asked, did she meet her donation goal ? And for others, who would still consider donating money, can they ? If so, can they send the donations to the link in your first post ?

Nancy I don't think she reached her goal but she did finish the race, that's the important part. As for the the other questions, I don't really know. Guess you would have to click the link to find out, thanks for asking. |
So here it is guys, if you want to contribute to a wonder cause, click on the link in the first post. You would be amazed how even a donation of $5 can help.
|
Thanks Nancy, looks like she did meet her goal. A few of her friends and people she works with in the ICU helped her out.
