new owner of 66 chevelle supossly lol
 

i jus traded a 95 stang for a 66 chevelle guy said something bout 136 car or something i have no clue . but questions are . title says 66 ss it has bucket seats v8 283 or 327 and 3 speed manual vin tag on door is correct guy gave me orignal documents from org owner with vin tag its correct.. butttt . i noticed tonight theres a vin tag on fire wall and its not correct as other 2 . and also the car sure hell looks like has 67 taillights n it i been lookin at pics of other chevelles n havent seen any with 66 long style did they make a 66 with same as 67 tails ???? and also . guy said something bout car might been state car or some sort cause its factory with cb antenna on pass side rear quarter ??? if u guys could help me out that would be great ...

The cowl tag is not an actual VIN, but it is a trim tag that notes the options that the car came with. Here's a link to a great site about identifying the chevelles and SS's.

ok well i was lookin at lot pics last night n jus couldnt find a 66 with 67 tail lights . do all 66s have the long styles ? and i will get some pics this evening .

That's extremely odd. Your title has a 136 VIN on it and says SS? 136 is a standard sport coupe while the 138 is the SS model. They did make the 136 SS version in Canada, but your tag is not a canadian tag. Do the tag rivets look original or tampered with?

I'm completely lost on the rear. It looks like 67 rear corner on a 66 car to me as well.

Your rivets on the VIN tag look to be the wrong type to me, but I'm no expert.

ya i know what ya mean ... the bottom rivets look org but top 2 look broken off . but idk . i got off phone with guy got car off of n he said he got it off org owner . n said sometime another he dont know story but rear panel has been changed n 67 tail lights put n it idk is that possible ? im 34 years old n dont know whole lot bout old cars but tryin learn . and rear cb antenna is kinda crazy . but IF the car was a ss . wouldnt it be a 4 speed car other then a 3 ?

or is it possible chevelle made a ss package with out putting big block 4 speed in car .

Yes that's possible, but the #136 SS cars are Canadian and have the Canadian VIN tag. Maybe yours was removed and replaced with the current American VIN tag.

could anyone run my vin tag and find out what my car was stock motor and trans ? i think was a 4 speed car cause can tell where other stuff was stock . n then they notched it for the 3 speed shifter ...

i pulled motor n trans today . numbers on front i couldnt find online . but read numbers on back of block and turned out to be 283... but i was tryin to run vin decode or something to figure out what my car came with stock . motor n trans .

wow . well i got ahold of org owner of chevelle 69 year old man . he told me car is not a ss he has a copy of org title . but all title n vin on door matches and ran vin decode n comes back as super coupe ? n have org paper work from him with a vin tag that matches . but he told me it was org 283 3 speed on colum n he put it on floor . but guess n early 70s he gave car to a school for a school project and body was real ruff so they changed the body n put the bucket seats and 67 tail lights in it . but he also told me he has all chrome and 66 tail lights n all for the car but dont wanna get rid of that cause thats all memory he has of the car ... but after all that happened the car has been sittin in a barn with a dirt floor since 78 . but i was glad to actually find out some info from him about the car .

I think that it would be cool to actually talk to the original owner. Just to hear all the excitement in their voice when they talked about the car. You are a lucky guy !

ya he was a 69 year old man . he used the car for a comp car for his comp most of its life till 78 when he gave up on it . id jus be a happy guy if he would come off all the chrome and rear panel to put 66 tail lights back in it lol

So how did you happen to find the car ?

i had a 95 mustang gt had blown motor but had motor went with the car and a guy asked if id be interested in trading n said hell yes . even tho the chevelle needed more or lot more work then the stang . n way i seen things theres millions of newer stangs out there but not many chevelles . but when i got the car it came with some org paper work for the car and i looked up guys name online and found his number so gave org owner of the car a call . and i was shocked when he told me he gave the car to the guy i got it from . but o well im jus hopin can afford get somethings done to it and make it a driver for weekends prob or nice days but im sure in time it wont take long . it needs lot work but they dont make cars like use to i luv old cars

You have a 67 300 deluxe tailight assembly. The rear tail-light housings are different 66 and 67 and between the malibu and the SS, also the panel between the taillights is different for the 66 and 67. You have a 66 bumper on there because the backup lights on a 66 where in the taillight housings and on a 67 the backup lights are in the bumper. The trunk lid is the same for a 66 or 67.

It is amazing the things that people do to cars. Some of it makes little or no sense. But maybe it is just what was available.

I may need a lot of work, but like many of our cars, it will always be a work in progress. We all look forward to watching your progression.

ya .... thats 1 thing is driving me nuts bout the car is the 67 tail lights.. i dont mind them but thats not whats supose to be in it and they gotta go haha
