Too hot here...

...so we're getting in the 'big old rollin turd' and heading up to Mackinaw for a few days. It was 96 here yesterday and is supposed to be around 90 through the week. Only supposed to be around 80 up there, should be nice. We have a site reserved with a lake view, just the park road between us and the water. Park also has a good view of the bridge at night.

This will be the first time towing the car so we'll see how that goes. Should be a nice break from working around here. Go to the island one day, take a drive up to the Tahquamenon Falls. Sit around and do nothing, you guys enjoy yourself. I think they have WIFII there so I'll let you know how things are going.

Rattler 07-18-2011 07:49 AM

You call that hot? Waving It was 91 here this morning at 4:50am according to my cars t-stat. Think today will be 107. The fun of Arizona summers LOL

Hank70SS 07-18-2011 08:23 AM

Ya, but it's a dry heat! :D

grandsport 07-18-2011 08:28 AM

I'm loving the heat.

flash 07-18-2011 08:36 AM

Im looking forward to Fall .

shadowgray396 07-18-2011 08:59 AM

Send some heat our way. I'm so tired of 60 degree weather and rain. I want some summer. It was like this last year here.

grumpy 07-18-2011 09:31 AM

The car is staying in the garage until this 90 deg crap goes away.

Ms Grumpy 07-18-2011 10:49 AM

I don't mind the heat as much as the humidity. And it is supposed to be both for the next week. Yuck !

flash 07-18-2011 11:09 AM

Its been wet and sticky here , and I dont mean rain. You step outside for a few minutes and youre wet to the bone with sweat.

Ms Grumpy 07-18-2011 06:19 PM

It rained for a split second here today. It dropped the temp for about 5 minutes, and then it was more humid.

grandsport 07-18-2011 07:44 PM

Yeah yeah. In 4 months yinz guys will be bitchin about the cold.Waving

shadowgray396 07-19-2011 06:42 PM

More like winter here again today. Rained all day and just made 60. Send it my way please................. We need a summer this year

grandsport 07-19-2011 07:37 PM

Note to self: self, quit complaining about Pa.weather.

Ms Grumpy 07-19-2011 07:55 PM

But those of us in the north like the snow, that is why we live here. But we like the summer, not the super scorcher summer, just the warm summer.

Hank70SS 07-22-2011 06:42 PM

Well it was super hot for Mackinac, in the 90's and humid the last few days. No problems on the trip, hard to tell I was towing a car most of the time. Engine temp went a little above 210 a few times pulling up a grade. Not bad considering I was towing 3,100 lbs and the motorhome probably weighs 15,000 to 16,000 lbs with all the crap we had and I was running the AC. Checked the oil this morning and it was right on the full line and looked really clean, has close to 4,000 miles on it.

Neighbor called Monday night, big storm and we lost power around 3:30 PM. In the upper 90's and power didn't come back on until around 7 PM Wednesday. Kitchen floor was wet when we got home, All the ice melted in the ice maker and leaked out. We'll be filling the garbage can next Thursday with all the food from the fridge and deep freeze. Oh well, shit happens.

Went up to the Soo Locks, good timing, 2 ore freighters came through the locks at the same time. Took a drive over to the falls. Walked the 96 steps down and back up at the upper falls. Then walked down and up the 116 steps to the trail along the gorge. Uck! I was soaked, it was so hot and humid at the bottom. It was worse going to the bottom then climbing back up because of the heat and humidity.

Walked around Mackinac City, drove down to Petoskey and walked around town. Then up to Harbor Springs and along the lake shore back to Mackinac. Yesterday we took the boat to the island. Walked around there and took the carriage tour. For those of you that don't know, there are no cars on Mackinac Island. There is a state highway that goes around the lake shore. It's probably the only state highway in the country that has never had an automobile accident.

We had a great site in the park. Looking straight out across the water was the island and you could make out the Grand Hotel. Over to the west a little was the Big Mac, good view, especially at night when lit up.

Well now back to reality. A couple of big branches broke and are hanging in the Box Elder tree in the back. Somebody is going to have to go up and cut them off. I'm afraid it's probably going to be me. Clean out the fridge and deep freeze. Clean up all the other sticks and small branches in the yard. Cut the grass, blah, blah, blah. Maybe I'll just get in the motorhome and go somewhere else.

shadowgray396 07-23-2011 08:44 PM

Finally got some summer weather today. About 88 here today and going to be about 90 tomorrow. We don't have the humidity like you guys have so it's a lot more enjoyable around here. Back to about 70 on monday again after the weekend. .

Hank70SS 07-24-2011 07:12 AM

Supposed to be in the 90's with heat index of 100 today. Neighbor said it was 101 here last week while we were away.

flash 07-24-2011 08:44 AM

The heat and humidity is killer here too and we should be used to it by now. Im already looking forward to fall but dread winter.

shadowgray396 07-24-2011 09:32 AM

Actually turn the water on the lawn for the first time this year. I've been reading about the intense heat on your side of the country. Sunny and 66 here at 7:30 this morning.

Hank70SS 07-24-2011 04:10 PM

Our grass is fried. I cut it last Friday, 10 days ago, and Lynda cut it today. The wheel marks from the lawn mower, rider, were totally brown from when I cut it. I have a few sprinklers going but no way I can keep up with all of it. Just water near the house, the parts we see the most. Supposed to be upper 80's to 90 the next week with little chance of rain. Worst part is we seeded next to the motorhome pad we built last year. trying to grow grass in this weather is pretty tough.

FlintTony 07-24-2011 06:03 PM

The wife, the dogs, and me have spent a lot of time in the pond this summer. I haven't had any of the cars out in a couple of weeks. Just been too hot.

Did the motor home do alright Hank?

Hank70SS 07-27-2011 05:25 PM

Sorry, missed your reply Tony. Yes, the motorhome did good. No problems towing the car, no more exhaust leak from the cracked manifold.

I haven't had the Chevelle out much, too hot to drive it with no AC and vinyl seats. A few weeks ago Lynda and I went for a drive, we were both soaked when we got home. Not this past Sunday but the week before my neighbor went over to Baker's. He said there was less than 30 cars there because of the heat. They usually have well over hundred if it's not a special day then it could be over a thousand.

71-SS350 07-28-2011 07:30 AM

Gee, what I would do for a couple 60 degree days and some rain. Yesterday was a balmy 110 record breaker. Haven't had enough rain to fill a bird bath let alone green up the grass. Just trying to keep some trees, small bushes and wife's flowers from turning brown. Weather man says 100 plus for the next week to come. More than ready for fall, just not winter.

Hank70SS 07-28-2011 07:43 AM

We had the 2nd wettest spring on record here then nothing since the beginning of June. Like you we're trying to keep a few things alive by watering but the lawn is toast. Well mother nature tried to catch up last night. Over 6" of rain in some areas, most everyone got over 2", since yesterday evening.

Ms Grumpy 07-28-2011 08:27 AM

It was so nice to see the rain here. I agree that it has been too hot to take the car out, especially when it is black with a black interior. We have been trying to figure out if we could do a/c before the NOCC show cause we plan on driving the car.

Hank70SS 07-28-2011 12:11 PM

We turned the AC off for a couple of days because the humidity had finally dropped and the house had been closed up for almost a month. Had to turn it on this morning. It was in the mid 70's but the dew point was also in the 70's. Everything in the house was damp and clammy feeling. Feels good in here now but I have to go outside and do a few things, yuck.

flash 07-28-2011 05:40 PM

Its still sweltering down here but they say the humidity is low. I beg to differ with them as we working people are sweating buckets.

Ms Grumpy 07-28-2011 06:13 PM

I need to wash my car, but with the humidity I figure I would probably sweat more than I use to wash the car. I am hoping that it will be dry enough tomorrow to maybe go to a show tomorrow night.

shadowgray396 07-28-2011 07:03 PM

Finally made the turn the last few days, hanging in the low 80's, humidity around 39%. Just right.

That sounds great, wish we had some of that. Of course you're just drying out from all the rain and cool weather, enjoy.
