Deconstruction Almost Complete

My 72 Chevy truck is in the final stages of destruction ,all thats left to remove is the engine and tranny .The cab is on a dolly stripped and ready for sandblasting ,the bed ,fenders, tailgates, and 2 sets of doors have been sand blasted and epoxy primed .The rolling frame with motor and trans are out back awaiting the extraction of motor and trans. The frame will then be sandblasted and painted very soon. The motor will be taken apart for a less lumpy stock 290 HP cam and all new gaskets as it leaked oil everywhere .I cant wait to see it start looking like a rust free truck again.:ntwrthy:

Sounds nice Mr. Flash. You are very excited about this and I hope it turns out better than you expect!

fleming23 12-30-2011 09:50 PM

Final stages of "destruction"? Sounds rough! :) Wish I was closer to stop by and take a look at the progress

flash 12-30-2011 10:25 PM

I cant wait to see new metal in the cab where all the rust used to be ,progress will be pretty quick now. I knew my patience would pay off or maybe it was the beer I took up there last week.
And Gary ,Darrell and Neil always know what I want even before I do. A few months back I told Darrell to build it however he wanted as long as it was in my budget and he said he was going to anyway .He knows me all to well and I will be very happy with it when its done. He still cant believe its going to be my daily driver work truck when its done but that is my plan. It will basically be a new 72 Chevy Fleetside Shortbed truck for a lot less than a new truck would cost and not depreciate every day I own it. I cant wait to be driving it daily and sell my 96 Ford Explorer that I bought new and have pretty much worn out .Although I cant complain about the Explorer as it has served me well with no problems all these years .I never planned on a frame off restoration for this truck ,that was Darrells idea .I told him to do it howerever he wanted as long as it was for the same money.

Sounds like you are moving ahead, but you know what they say

:worthless:

flash 12-30-2011 11:31 PM

Ray ,I wasnt planning to go up there today so I didnt take my camera .They let us off work early today and I just went on a whim and did not expect this much this quick as I was just there last week to give them a case of beer for Christmas and it was still mostly together. I can get pics next week if someone will post them for me.

shadowgray396 12-31-2011 10:27 AM

Always fun to kid around. If you get some email them to me and I would be glad to post them for you. It's fun to see what other projects look like. I did a 64 ford PU years ago frame off, hadn't plan too but it got bigger as I got into it.

Ms Grumpy ,you are good at many things especially making me smile.

flash 01-03-2012 10:01 PM

Will be getting pics to Ray or Ms Grumpy soon .

fleming23 01-03-2012 10:07 PM

Are they starting to put it back together yet?

flash 01-04-2012 06:28 AM

No ,it will be a long while before it goes back together .They wil sandblast the frame and paint it ,the motor comes out for a new less thumpin cam and new gaskets as it leaks oil everywhere .Then the rust repair starts on the cab .So it will be quite a while ,maybe I will have it for the Peachstate show so that I can haul some parts to the swap meet.

flash 01-05-2012 09:50 PM

I wanted to ride up to the bodyshop today after work but didnt have time ,tonight was for the boys.

flash 10-16-2012 09:02 PM

Went to the bodyshop today to see my truck and to my surprise they have the bed and tailgate painted .The cab has had all the rust gut out and soon will have new cab corners ,rockers and new cab mounts welded in .The frame is wearing several coats of black paint .Its about time some fotward progress was made .

shadowgray396 10-16-2012 09:50 PM

Glad to hear progress is moving ahead. Won't be long now it sounds like. But as you know

It will be a while before I get more pics ,I have some of the frame freshly painted somewhere .

RBeckman 10-18-2012 08:30 PM

Nice job, love the color

earthquake68 10-18-2012 08:51 PM

That is a very RED pick up truck! :D Looks great so far!

flash 10-18-2012 08:58 PM

I cant wait for it to be completely done and becomes my daily driver again .

flash 10-28-2012 11:52 AM

Went by the bodyshop after getting home from our vacation to give them my spare tailgate for parts and to see the progress. They had sprayed the first coat of bedliner in the bed and undercoated it .The cab hsd most of the new metal in place including the rocker panels ,cab corners ,and under cab mounts .They are getting ready to cut the door bottoms off and replace the rusty spots there .The new wiring harness should be here soon and I need to order the crate motor soon.

earthquake68 10-28-2012 03:05 PM

All it takes is time and money! :D

flash 10-28-2012 07:05 PM

Ive got plenty of time I hope but they(bodyshop) and the truck have my money.

flash 01-04-2013 06:50 PM

Well guys and Gals ,Im losing hope that my truck will ever be done . Went by to see recent progress and there was NONE to see and that was after another payment a couple of months ago .I sometimes wonder if I should pull the plug on the life support .

shadowgray396 01-04-2013 09:09 PM

Sounds like you need to light a fire under someone. Sorry to hear no progress on your truck.

flash 01-25-2013 09:08 PM

Went up to the bodyshop on Monday and they have started cleaning up the welded in sheetmetal and started putting on some body filler so there is a little hope .Joan was with me and told one of the guys she was going to send its second birthday card up there in April and he said he was really sorry that he didnt realize it had been almost 2 years .She has a way of making them feel so guilty .

4spdwgn 01-26-2013 10:50 AM

Wow,you are way more patient than I would be at this point.I just went through this with a 70 Cougar Eliminator that I built for a friend. A 100% rust free car took 9 mos to paint. No door dings,no dents, just straight rust free metal. They told me "No problem, should'nt take more than 2 weeks".The 6 days that the interior shop promised was 4 months!Giving me almost 0 time to do assembly, detailing, new suspension and get it running.Looks like the work they are doing is top notch tho, hope to see more pics.
