Looking for information on this car...
I don't have the VIN - that is my biggest stumbling block. My parents ordered a 72' SS 454 Chevelle in Late April of 1972. It was delivered to United Chevrolet in Worchester, Massachusetts in late July of 1972. It was traded in there sometime in 1974 by my parents for a 1974 Monte Carlo. (BARF!) That dealership seems to be out of business.
My father's health continues to fade, and he mentions that he would really love to track that car down more often lately. I suspect it will damn near be impossible. The car was Mulsane Blue - stripe delete, LS5 454, TH400, White bench seat interior, PS, PDB, 3.31 posi, domed hood - not cowl induction, F41 suspension, AM/FM radio, HD cooling, HD battery, tinted glass, std SS dash - no tach, std SS steering wheel. I gathered these details based on their memories of the car. They didn't take many pictures, this is all I have... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...6/72LS5141.jpg The 2nd picture with custom paint is a result of the factory paint flaking off in that area. My father had no luck with the dealer taking care of the issue, so a paint & body man by trade - he improvised. It was a "white marble stripe with cob-webbing" my father said. Also, the car had white bucket seats in it when traded in - sometime in 1974. He told me that he bought a set dirt cheap from a wrecked 70' SS Chevelle in the local bone yard. The picture to the right is pretty much how it would have looked when traded in. Thanks in advance. |
Good luck on your quest, you might get a vin from your insurance person who had it back then. Long shot but worth asking. I have had the same insurance guy for over 30 years, so if your parents stay with the same person who knows.

I am going to make a phone call Monday, but they have lived in VA and now FL since then. And changed insurance companies a few times.

What about the car dealership, is it still there ?
|
I've been looking for my 1964 GTO for over 4 years and I have the VIN and no luck at all. But good luck
|
I live in Ma and I haven't seen it at any car shows. I will keep my eyes open, maybe it's bidding in someones garage.
|
I wish you the best of luck. I wouldn't even know where to start without the VIN.
|
I paid for a vin search to see if I could find Maureens ElCamino SS a few years back, but that came up negative.

Is there anyone at Chevrolet that can help with the information that you have ?
|
I have a friend who works for GM, but he is VERY hard to get in touch with. I fired off an email last night, so we'll see what happens.

Been making phone calls and chasing ghosts... no real progress yet. I did stop by to see my folks tonight, and my mom had found two more pictures. She also told me that she remembered seeing the car a year or so after it was traded in on RT 290. She said what stuck out about it, the stripe had been painted over. But the quality of the "quickie" paint job was so poor, that she could see the stripe underneath still. Every time she passed the car, she knew it was her old car because of the poor cover up paint work. She last saw the car around 1977-ish by her best memory. They moved to Yarmouth Port from Auburn around 79'-80' and never saw the car again. The engine bay shot reveals a few day 2 additions, some Cal Custom valve covers and an open element air cleaner. My father told me that something else unique would be the intake manifold. He ditched the factory intake, and swapped an aluminum intake from a 390HP 427 68'-69' Corvette. Those three items were in place when it was traded in, the intake was painted orange to look factory.

Got some new information...
I spoke to a close friend of my parents that bought a similar car from the same dealership, at the same time they purchased their car. His car, confirmed by him - is Canadian built. And he is 99.9% sure my folks car would have been as well. Isn't there a VIN list for the 266 Canadian built cars somewhere? Thus far, my Google search has come up empty. I am thinking if I look at his VIN, and look for cars built close in sequence #, I will find their old car. Thanks in advance... |
And the search continues. This is so cool to go along on this search with you. I am hoping that someone comes up with some information for you. Good Luck !

I just talked to someone who told me that GM Canada kept a thousand times better records than GM here. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you.
|
I'm hopeing a might see it at a car show this year.
|
No luck so far, I am trying to get the sequence number from the other car's VIN. Then I plan to call the Canada connection and give them that number, to see if any cars built a few before or after match the colors/options of my parents car.
