Air Bagging the Wagon

hey all...im just getting ready to start bagging my wagon....i have my Viair 480 c compressors...(2)...a slim line 5 gal tank....2600lb bags for all 4 corners...and that what i have so far...havent decided wether or not to go manual fb with it or go electric valve and go fbss..first time bagging..want to go with the most practical because it will be the daily driver family ride...let me know what your thoughts are and what systems you all have used to do this....like to learn all aspects...have several other cars that will get the treatment later....thanks peeps

Ms Grumpy 07-01-2012 01:55 PM

First off, Welcome.

Sounds like you have some major plans for your wagon. Can't wait to see some pics as your build continues.

Here is a pic about a week or so after we brought her home...already changed the rims , but this has the suspension all replaced with new bushings....new boxed control arms , disc brake conversion ,...right after this we decided she needs bags....lol..so will be replaceing some of what we have done already...but isnt that how it goes....lol

flash 07-01-2012 08:06 PM

It looks good ,I like it.

In this pic..we already put the fatter tires on , I use these for my rollers on each car....lol..love the dog dosh caps...there from my 66 SS...we took out the windows and re-did the seal on each side as well as treat the metal as needed...love the por 15...great stuff...

Driver side..this is where i was surprised a bit...after pulling the window...which was ducked on when i got it....i figured the channel wold be rusted out because of the lower quarter rust out....but...it was in pristine shape with no damage...so not quite sure how the quarter became so rusted unless this window has been ducked taped for many many years....lol

westender 07-01-2012 08:22 PM

Funny thing is ..I got a great shop behind the house for doing this stuff. But garage is full of the high dollar cars, so I am old schooling it in the driveway for now on some of the simpler stuff, at least until i get down to some serious fab time. We have one more car show we have to make coming up in 3 weeks...after that i wont be taking the 35 out for a bit..so i think we will move it around to the shop and get her up in the air again for the bags

flash 07-02-2012 07:26 PM

It looks much better with the dog dishes on it.

Ms Grumpy 07-02-2012 09:26 PM

heres a pic of the new wheels on the way already....17's up front and 18's in the back.....took me about a month to decide what size wheels and tires to go with...

westender 07-07-2012 10:13 PM

Heres a pic of the trunk well after prep and herculiner applied....got the viair 480 c pumps mounted as well as the tank....the shiny spots are ones from me just touching up the herculiner.....may put another coat on once the rest of the system layout is installed.......had a bummer thing happen to day tho , had a main bolt break in the block today on final torque......so...i came up with a plan to drill and remove it without taking the whole thing apart again....wish me luck on that.....take some pics of that when i get to it ....kinda got the wind knocked out of my sails today when that happened....

Short Block

Finally got back into getting the short block done...wrapped the whole motor in plastic front to back and end to end....just cut a small hole where the bolt needed to be removed.....taped that area off..several times.....then i was comfortable to go ahead and drill out the bolt to get a easy out into it... i used my telescopic magnet to keep getting the shavings out during drilling....didnt have to drill much which was nice....ended up using this cheap little gasmo called "Grab Bitz" which you just put in your drill and put drill in reverse....worked great...walked the broken bolt piece right out....flushed the area with wd-40 to get out any last bit of shavings.....then carefully cut the plastic and pulled it off the motor....so..now I am back to getting motor done and get it into that car....

westender 07-18-2012 10:53 PM

Wheels Are IN !!

Finally ...the wheels and tires are in ....the rear ones are mounted....i will have time to mount the front ones tomorrow...will post a few pics then....they look sweet...:D

flash 07-19-2012 04:11 PM

Cant wait to see pics .

Ms Grumpy 07-19-2012 06:15 PM

You have been really busy. How do you like the herculiner ?

westender 07-21-2012 11:21 AM

Love that herculiner..it is the brushable stuff out of the can.one coat usually does it and puts on a nice undercoat base....i plan on doing the inside of the floor pans with it as well once the interior is removed.....

flash 07-21-2012 06:31 PM

BBChevelle 07-22-2012 12:47 AM

What year is your wagon? It looks like it has the 72 turn signal bezels and the 71 grill and headlight bezels? Looks good though man keep up the work

Fat fingered from the phone- Corey

westender 07-22-2012 08:42 PM

your right on both counts BB...it technically is a 71 wagon...but at some point it had the 72 nose from a chevelle put on it...it had the chevelle emblems on the fenders and different trim holes they filled as well....I will probably leave the 72 turn signals on ...i like them better...alot cleaner looking if you ask me...I am looking for a clean grill for it tho ...there are some teeth missing in this one.....even one paintable is fine...dont want to spring for a new one if i dont have too....lol

flash 07-23-2012 04:24 PM

I have a nice 72 grill .

westender 07-23-2012 07:33 PM

you do ?....i looked at pics of them both on ebay..i dont see any real noticable difference....i might just be interested in that...let me know what your looking to get out of it plus shipping....i live in washingotn ...near seattle

flash 07-23-2012 08:38 PM

Best offer plus shipping .

Ms Grumpy 07-23-2012 09:55 PM

You are one lucky man to have his girl working along with him. A woman like that is few and far between. I love the wagon.

westender 07-24-2012 07:24 PM

Thanks Ms GRumpy.....I totally agree...and the smile was genuine...she helped me all day outside with it...asking what she could do next...it was great....I told her that night ...this was one of the best days working on cars in a long time....she asked me why....I told her ...I got to spend time with boththe loves of my life.....what more could a man ask for.....lol.....I think she is game to help again now when we put the motor in ...))

flash 07-24-2012 09:25 PM

You should get her to join us on this site as we need more car ladies onboard ,and keep the pics coming.

The "while i got it out BLues"

ok. ....been awhile since the past post...but here is where I am at today.... The new motor is all ready to put in....I did pick up a steel cowl hood for it off of craigslist dirt cheap...and it turned out to be a brand new one...got very lucky there.... but heres my dilema....I am sure we all reach this point at some time when we are messing around with our rides... the .."While i got it out blues".... I honestly thought i would just pull the motor and put the new one in and worry about all the other changes later....but....while i got it out....well.....the list starts to grow....
like to upgrade to a 700r4 tranny....pull apart the front end and sand...treat and repaint everything.....replacing harness as needed....this one is quite butchered......strip...treat..and paint the frame....undercoat the back of the fenders....and on and on...where do yo stop at this point....I mean....truly..."while i got it out" will save money and time in the long run...especially time....so ..the more that i look at the engine bay with the old exhaust hanging there...and the surface rust here and there....it just seems inevitable that the " while i got it out" portion of my brain is gonna win me over.....does it make my wife happy?...time will tell....lol...but in the long run ..it will be a daily driver for the family + dog..so doing all these things at least i will be able to cross it off the list...just my thoughts over the last 2 weeks ...lol.....more pics to come of the pretty motor i have assembled for this Bowtie smiley

westender 08-14-2012 06:43 PM

Alright....so i broke down and tore the front end apart....now im building a blasting box to do the front core support...fenders...and all the yada yada do dads around that area......so...one thing leads to another...but at least in the long run it will be done right and i will have a blasting box for my other chevelle projects....))

flash 08-14-2012 08:11 PM

Can you show us the blasting box when you are done ,sounds like a fun project in itself.

westender 08-15-2012 06:43 PM

you bet....ill post some pics while im building it...looks like tonight might be the night i get to start it

Ms Grumpy 08-15-2012 08:25 PM

I would like to see that too.

flash 08-15-2012 09:45 PM

Looking forward to the build .
