I just paid $1.49 a gallon

I just got back from the gas station where I paid $36.50 for 24.31 gallons of gas.

I don't know if you guys have a Kroger grocery store around you, but they have this program for every dollar you spend, you get a point. For every 100 points you get $0.10 off a gallon. The promotion runs from the first day of a month til the last day. If you buy gift cards, you get 2x's the points. Well this month they had 4x's the points on gift cards. So we bought gift cards to the stores we were going to shop at, as well as groceries. So we had over 2,000 points which got me $2.00 off EVERY gallon of gas.

So the $3.499 gallon of gas became $1.499 a gallon for me.

Should have bought your Kroger gas in GA...pump price for 87 unleaded is $3.14 ;)
Would have saved another $8.40 !!

Great price, The last time gas was at $1.49 was around 2003

Maureen shops at a store called Giant Eagle, and about every 3 months gas is almost free for a fill up.

We shop at Krogers but there is only one Kroger by us and they don't have fuel pumps. You can also use the points to get 10 cents off a gallon at Shell stations. Only Shell station around is at the other end of town and they're 10 cents a gallon more than most stations.

We did get 20 cents off the other day. We were near the Kroger in Milford and they sell gas.

Did you ever ask them where the closest Kroger station was ? Or is it the one in Milford. Until a few months ago, the closest Kroger station was about 13 miles from my house. They built the one in Ferndale over the summer and it is nice, especially since I travel I-75 a lot.

I got gas last night in Ferndale (9mile & I-75) .But I have gotten it in Dearborn, Oxford, Milford, and East Pointe too.

I usually do the same thing at BJ's and so does my wife at the stop and shop stations for the discounts.

shadowgray396 12-01-2012 02:32 PM

Gas prices around here are at best $3.23, with maybe a 10 cent discount at Cosco.

Ms Grumpy 12-01-2012 07:52 PM

The Costco's around me don't seem to have that big of a discount from the regular stations.

Do you guys have to pay more for gas if you use a credit card. Around here, if you use a credit card you will pay between 6 and 10 cents more per gallon.

shadowgray396 12-01-2012 08:19 PM

Some stations have the same price either way, and others cash is cheaper.

I filled up with non ethanol gas today in Nashville and got much better mileage but it was about .20 higher per gallon.

Ms Grumpy 12-02-2012 09:36 AM

Gallon of gas was less than a buck in the 80's.

shadowgray396 12-02-2012 11:37 AM

I use ethanol free gas in the Chevelle, if you want to know where to find it check this link out. Good for US and Canada. Even gives you the address and a GPS location if you are directionally challenged

I got my license in 1998, and gas was $0.97/gal. I remember spending $50 in gas one weekend cruising with my Dad's '68 Camaro, paying $1.04.9 for premium... did a lot of cruising, won some street races, met some girls, and got a speeding ticket. One of the most memorable weekends of my life. :D

When I was a kid .25 cents would buy a gallon of gas. When gas went to a $1 a gallon in the mid seventys everyone freaked out and the gas lines were long. Might have to wait an hour to get gas. Luckly it only last a few weeks. Gas was around .40 cents a gallon when I started to drive and by 1974 hit 60 cents a gallon people were thinking about selling their muscle cars. Times have changed.

I thought you were older than me for some reason, I got mine in 1995. Because I live near a tourist area, I remember paying $1.349 - $1.399 for premium back then. I used to put the timing back to the factory 10* in my 5 liter mustang during the week so I could run 89 mid grade for about $0.10 - $0.14 less per gallon. Then go fill up with 93 and yank the timing up to 15* on Friday night. Laughable, but it did make an almost .2 difference in ET from that small change.
