Snowed in in GA. Drifts are at Least 1/8" deep

Holy "C**p"!

Barely any snow and all the roads are closed. I can't get up or down my driveway, can't leave the development, etc.

What's all this talk about global warming? It was 14 degrees at noon!

Where am I...Latrobe?

No Latrobe, 17 hours NORTH of Altanta was 16 degrees.

This photo was a block away.

THIRTY FIVE cars in ditches within a half mile of home

Dang Spanky, looks like we're done for.

Fred,my daughter will be in Atlanta in a couple of weeks. Do you want her to teach you wimps to drive in the "snow"?

Chicken Coupe 01-08-2010 06:58 PM

Sure there's about 3 million idiots here. How long's she gonna be here? :D

I like that, good one.

Derek69SS 01-08-2010 08:48 PM

1/8"? I hope you made it to the grocery store before that blizzard to stock up on beans & rice! :D

Herbie67SS454 01-08-2010 09:07 PM

We got about 2" here on the GA/NC border. Pretty slick. They finally got the main road cleared this pm.
I played shuttle service last night and today with the 4x4. Took it out of 4 wheel this afternoon and couldn't go anywhere on the road in front of the house. Back to 4x4.
We don't have the DOT equipment around here that up north does.
Also true that the idiots here still drive the same....real fast and tail gate. Not supposed to hit the brakes but they do.

Chevelle_Nut 01-08-2010 09:44 PM

Wow Herbie you are a ways out there in Hayesville, come to think of it Hayesville was the only State Employees Credit Union branch to close early yesterday an today due to weather.

The Southern version...buy bread and milk if a storm is forecast.
I'm ready for this cold weather to END!!! Not going to get above 32 all weekend...again.
Our normal daily average high for this time of the year is 54...the avg low is 34.

Chevelle_Nut 01-09-2010 05:40 AM

14 degrees here this morning, forecast says it will be in the 50s later this week, let's hope so.

Herbie67SS454 01-09-2010 03:50 PM

Yeah, Nut......most people in Raleigh don't even know that there are two more hours in the state west of Asheville.
I got out in the garage yesterday and worked on the Chevelle some.
Water was froze this am in the house. Had to take the heater to the well house and thaw it out. Man was it cold this morning.
1 degree. Brrrrrrrrrr

Bracebridge, Ontario. December 8, 2009. One storm. Five feet of snow.

Chevelle_Nut 01-09-2010 04:20 PM

Some of us know you are out there, that is beautiful country.

Maybe the Carolina Chevelle Association can make a cruise out that way one weekend.

Stay warm.

64Malibu 01-09-2010 06:48 PM

Stay warm. Around here we call that a dusting, waking up to 2-3" is not a big deal.

Thanks. I live in a valley with a large lake in the center. Mountains encircle the valley.
Come on out!! I can hook you all up. Spend the night here depending on how many come.
We can go out to Chevelles to eat.

Glad you made it in OK.

1-We just had all ice under a very minor dusting of snow, no traction on the hills so they closed the roads, even though the "main" roads were fine. I had to do a "jailbreak" this morning and moved the barrier myself, See ya Waving

2-People around here don't know how to drive on stuff like this, so they make it worse.

3-No salt spreaders or salt.

In the NE, this would have been a zero issue.

Chevelle_Nut 01-10-2010 06:21 AM

Raleigh was shut down a couple of years ago from a small snow/ice event. Now they brine the roads on the threat of snow. It did help the other day, the back road became icy that were not treated but the main roads were fine.

My driveway...pic taken this morning. Any place that's in the shade still has a coating of snow/ice.

I used to get that stuff in my freezer if someone blocked the door from closing. How does it get on your driveway like that? :D Waving

chevguy65 01-10-2010 01:17 PM

I had heard that if the south got even a skiff of snow that it paralyzed the area but didn't think it was true.

I have been in snow that driving through snow drifts bigger than your car is normal.
Tip for the south...snow=slick :)
