I'm replacing my 71 Sweep Dash with this insert from Metrom. Autometer Gauges not included.

It's a textured powder coated finish in black. It is machined out of a piece of billet aluminum.

Well were getting there slowly but surely. In the process of wiring and hooking up gauges. I bought the American Autowire Harness for the Autometer Gauges which is making the job alot easier.

That looks nice and clean ,I like it.

Ms Grumpy 04-24-2013 05:14 PM

I really like that. Is it super pricey ?

Between the insert, gauges, and wiring harness close to $1000.

Relatively, that is not too expensive when you factor in the expense of a new dash harness.

It's not a full dash harness half of it hooks all the electrics of the gauges into a main disconnectable connector and the other half hooks into the main stock harness. All the wires are marked what they are and they give you a colored schematic to wire everything up. It comes with all the connectors needed to put it together. It was the cheapest part of the job $100.

I agree thats not a bad price for all that .

I hate to admit this but I like it better than the original SS dash.

You and me think alike. In the beginning I really wanted to keep the sweep dash just the way it came stock and add a tach and a few gauges. As I got deeper into the dash and found things wrong I started weighing my options of what to do next. I really didn't want to go for the SS dash because I didn't really care for it and I didn't want to go the fake SS look. Any of the other cluster inserts looked chintzy to me. I saw the Metrom Insert and said that's just what I'm looking for it's different and besides getting to put all gauges in the car it gives the dash a nice clean appearance.

Got all the wiring to the gages done have a glitch in the brake light working though. Still have to wire in the radio and shift light. I got side tracked when I started the car to check that the gages were working and found the carburetor was pouring gas out of it. I cleaned and rebuilt it today. But I noticed that the previous owner made his own duel feed fuel line and didn't double flare the ends, one end just about had a single flare. It seems as you take 1 step forward you take 2 steps back because something else turns up.

Well the dash still isn't all put back together but here's the latest picture. Been working in the engine compartment rebuilt the carburetor and replaced the leaking half ass fuel line with a y block duel feed setup from the Right Stuff that is made for a aftermarket Holley Duel Feed carburetor with 8 5/8 fuel bowl center distance.

Looks like you are moving ahead on your car.

hkalin 05-24-2013 04:27 AM

Yes, but at a much slower pace than expected. I've still got along way to go new master cylinder and booster with all new fuel and brake lines and alot more little detail items for the engine compartment. I'm finding out it's not quite as easy working on a car at age 62 compared to being 20. My goal is to get the car registered soon and then pic at the rest of the stuff from there.

I love that gage set up ,it looks so good .
