You know you are getting old when.....

your insurance premium comes for a 2013 Corvette and the total is $168 less per year than my 2012 Mustang GT and the Vette has a value of $20k more.I guess getting old does have its rewards!Really,I never asked but I figured the Vette would be about $500 more a year.

Ms Grumpy 06-01-2013 08:01 PM

Dang....since your saving all that money how about paying my insurance on the Malibu. :) Doesn't hurt to ask.

fleming23 06-02-2013 08:38 AM

I found the same thing when I bought a new Mustang GT in 2011. It was more expensive to insure than a new Vette for me, although I'm in my 20s.

earthquake68 06-02-2013 10:09 AM

Maybe they go off the fact if you get in an accident, you are probably NOT going to be able to fix it, since those cars tend to disintegrate in accidents.

I thought this was going to be a thread for old people.

Like, "You know you're getting old when you bend over to pick something up and you start to look around for other stuff you can do while you're down there." :D

Bowtie-Bri 06-02-2013 03:04 PM

So THATS why you see so many old people driving around in Corvettes. It all make sense now. Empty nesters having fun and getting good gas mileage to boot. I know I'll never own a Corvette because I don't want to be put me into the "Old People" category, not that your old Gary. Your just the cool dude in a Corvette.:D

Owned my first Corvette at age 22,and have never lost the passion for them. The one car I always go back to,and will never be without again.

earthquake68 06-02-2013 05:52 PM

I MAY own another one, ...but it will be a while from now and have to be an amazing deal, too good to be true, so if I ever want to sell it, I won't lose my rear bumper in it again like I have in the past.

FlintTony 06-02-2013 06:01 PM

I'd like to have a Vette. A 58-62. I'd put a straight axle under it, raise the rear about 8", put a nasty 427 in it, M22 with a 4.11 Ford 9". Maybe a small roll bar. Something along the lines of the one in "Hot Rods to Hell" movie. That's the only way I'd ever have one though.

I'd like to see you do that Tony. Then bring it down to Baker's when they have a Vette gathering so I can watch all those assholes have heart attacks when they see what you did to it.

Not saying everyone that owns a vette is an asshole but a lot of those guys are real jerks. Had one tell me that since I didn't have a vette I shouldn't even bother. My Chevelle was just a waste of time and money, only vettes are worth owning.

Bowtie-Bri 06-03-2013 08:28 AM

I'm sure theres some vette guys that don't talk to him either because they know he's an a$$hole.

Tony, you would never fit in it, when my son was working at Hotrods Unlimited there were two cars that he had to get someone else to move as he could not get in them because of his height 6'3"...One was a 62 Vette and the other one was a 57 T-bird.

I have owned 3 Vettes and the wife said no to anymore unless it was a 58-67 as I would become that guy (Bald older guy in Vette).

Tell him unless he has a mint, low mileage, numbers matching, completely bone stock original car from 1953-1972, his car isn't worth owning either. It has less resale than an '05 Honda Accord. ...and I'm not exaggerating. (which is why I won't own another one)

Hank70SS 06-03-2013 07:02 PM

It isn't only vette guys, I know that. There are a lot of nice vettes I'd like to own but there's a lot of them and I do mean a lot of them that think they're something special because they have a vette. I could buy a vette if I wanted too. I could buy an Audi, Mercedes, BMW, etc if I wanted to. I just can't justify that much money for a toy. Priorities, we all have them and they're all different.

Ms Grumpy 06-03-2013 08:49 PM

I'd love to own an older Vette too. But what would I do with my kids, there is not enough room in the trunk. :)

grandsport 06-05-2013 03:18 PM

Lol,I can feel the love for a Corvette owner on a Chevelle forum:p.Yes Hank,I am an asshole with a heaping dose of arrogance and a side order of ego,but if I want to continue my career in management it is part of the act for me.When I leave the office Im just a regular car guy who just happens to love Corvettes, that's all.

Edit:When I semi retire in 6 years if I am still alive my gift to myself hopefully will be a Maserati GT coupe. What a stunning automobile at a fairly decent price.

Ms Grumpy 06-05-2013 07:22 PM

We will like you no matter what you drive.

flash 06-05-2013 07:24 PM

Gary ,nothing wrong at all with loving other cars like the Vette ,Maserati GT or whatever turns you on ,I like em all .

Hey, I said I would like a Corvette and I wasn't implying you were an asshole. I said a lot of Corvette guys that show up at car cruises are. I had one for a few years, a long time ago, fun car to drive. Nothing I said was directed at you, I do have other friends with Corvettes and they're not assholes either.

Bowtie-Bri 06-06-2013 12:17 AM

Are guys with "Camaros" assholes?

Don't make this something it's not Brian. You and Gary can both read. I didn't say anyone that owns a Corvette is an asshole and I never even mentioned Camaros. So are some Camaro owners assholes, sure and so are some Chevelle owners.

I was just saying, that at least around here, some people that own older, classic Corvettes thing they're something special.

RBeckman 06-06-2013 08:32 PM

Damn can't we all get along.

flash 06-06-2013 08:51 PM

Probably not ,but Im almost willing to try .

Bowtie-Bri 06-06-2013 11:31 PM

Take it easy, I was just joking around. I didn't mean to mislead you my friend.
Take care my friend and I hope to see you and Linda sometime this summer!

Okay Brian, just didn't want what I said to get out of hand.

earthquake68 06-07-2013 07:52 AM

There's extremes and prejudice in every car circle. That's just the way it is. Luckily, the snobs are still outnumbered by the true car guys.

I fear as the economy sinks father in the hole, the snobs will start to outnumber the car guys. "Well, I can AFFORD a classic car and you just have to be content to admire mine, therefore I'm better than you."

That's the general attitude of Corvette owners and why I think they have that stereotype. (of course I'm talking about the a-hole owners, not everyone) I would LOVE to get a repop mid year body and make a ratty looking gasser out of it like on "King of the Mountain" and take it to every local show just to cheese off the Corvette guys.

You really want to give the Corvette elite a heart attach, show up with something like this at your local Corvette show.

Someone needs to put those 2 out of their misery .

Ms Grumpy 06-07-2013 06:11 PM

I like it when people get creative. But those are too much.

grandsport 06-08-2013 07:47 PM

Lol,again my sense of humor has gone awry.I really think the Camaro owners are the ads wholes lol

Ms Grumpy 06-08-2013 08:07 PM

I happened to be at an Air Rifle shoot this morning and we were talking about car "Snobs". Most of the guys in the conversation were guys who had bought some of the late 50's and early 60's cars new. They had built them up, putting in bigger cams, and modifying it anyway they could. Now that they are older, many admire the older Corvettes and Mustangs, but dislike how "Snobbish" the owners are. It was the consensus of the these guys that the ones that owned numbers matching cars were the worst.

I asked most of them, if they could own a classic car now, what would they own. All of them said none. I laughed, they said it was because it was too much work and that they would rather admire the work that others put into their cars, no matter what make or model.

I said....good answer !

Bowtie-Bri 06-08-2013 10:52 PM

What are "ads wholes" Gary? Is that a PA. thing? :D
