New Member from San Francisco, CA

Hello everyone,
New here and looking to buy my first chevelle. Open to 1964-1972 but prefer 1966-1970. Non SS ok, clone ok. Budget is $15k-30k, more concerned about being completely turn key or minimal work to be complete. Willing to go as far out as WA, NV, AZ but the closer the better. I look forward to getting to know others, getting help and eventually helping out others also. Thanks!

Welcome from Georgia ,I know of a nice 70 Malibu convertible in Nashville ,Tenn for just under $20K and its a very nice driver ,you could fly in and drive it back.

Got a link to it? I'm getting financed so they wanna send a local certified appraiser first. If it's approved i'll go out to see it in person.

I dont have a link as it belongs to a friend ,Chuck Hanson but I can e mail some recent pics if you provide your e mail .You may know him from HorsePower TV when he was the host of the show .

Welcome, if it belongs to Chuck Hanson I'm sure it's a nice car.

Thanks, I might also try hot August nights in Reno with Barrett Jackson in 3 weeks. Then there's mecum auction in Monterey the following week after. Not necessarily cars in the auction, but maybe finding a spectator with a car for sale. Any other searching tips or info would be greatly appreciated.

I would buy from Chuck before I trusted an auction and Chucks cars are nice and well maintained .I can put you in direct contact if you like .

Titan06 07-20-2013 08:04 PM

That works for me if you guys don't mind. Thanks.

Welcome Titan. I would go with anything that Chuck has. He is a car guy and owns some beauties. I hope you talk to him before you go to any auctions. Besides, Chuck is a really nice, down to earth, honest about his cars kind of guy.

I'm open to others. Today i found 2 Malibu sport coupes? Has Vin # 136370. That's at 2 local classic car dealers in my area. Was wondering if anyone would check them out n tell me what they think. Both 1970 chevelles, both blue. One at www.myhotcars.com n other at specialtysales.com. Hoping for one as close to original as possible.

Welcome Titan to the site. Anytime you buy from a dealer the price is always high. The blue Chevelle you have a link to is over priced in my opinion. Looks like who every painted it didn't take the time to cover the wheel wells since they have blue over spray in them, so that makes me wonder what else they covered up under the paint. Doesn't look like the car has been restored, it may be a true SS car looking at what it has on it. But looks like it needs work. Looking at the car in pictures maybe 24k if it doesn't have a bunch of issues and is a SS car. I missed the full documentation statement in the write up.

I forwarded an E Mail w/pics of car for sale ,let me know what you think.

Ray,
Thanks for checking those out with observations and advice. They claim they have $17k in receipts that have full engine and trans rebuild, paint etc. hopefully I see them in person later on this week. I was thinking no more than $30k after everything IF receipts are legit n car is cleaner than pics. After all ,it's not a true SS.

Titan06 07-21-2013 06:07 PM

John,
Thanks for finding those for me to check out. I saw the wagon and conv. I want a 2dr coupe and a 396. They're extremely clean and I really like that and everything else about the 2 cars. I'm gonna pass on those 2. I'm still doing research and learning while I look for the one I love. This is gonna be my first and I want this to be as original as possible. I'll worry about building and customizing on the next one. My name is Wes by the way.

Write up says it is a true SS and has full documentation. Still looks like it may have issues looking at the under side of the car.

Ray,
Should I just ignore the Fathom Blue one all in all, or inspect it well? What about the Astro Blue one? I still prefer the Fathom for the cowl, Muncie n bucket seats. But those alone aren't enough to ignore the whole thing unless its "suspect" or more serious.

shadowgray396 07-22-2013 11:21 PM

Anytime you buy a car you need to inspect it. Find out if there is a Chevelle club in your area and try to find someone who knows Chevelle. The Fathom Blue one just looks like it has a cheap paint job on it just from what I see from the pictures. Who every painted it didn't take the time to do a class A job on it. Even the rockers are not totally covered on the lower side. Looks like you can see a lighter color on them. Try to buy from a private party rather then a dealer.

Titan06 07-22-2013 11:44 PM

Ok thanks, I'll see what options my network can find around here. They're definitely better than me at assessing classic cars, so I'll definately hear them out and value their opinions.
