Cooking all day

That is my favorite kind...the kind you start early in the morning, and let go all day. Every time you walk through the kitchen, it smells better and better.

3# Carrots
1# Celery
1# Onion
5# Potatoes
Seasoned Well
http://i812.photobucket.com/albums/z...1263834234.jpg
2 ea. 3# Pork Shoulder Roasts (seasoned well)
http://i812.photobucket.com/albums/z...1263834250.jpg
Make a bed with the vegetables, and lay the roasts over the top...add a couple cups water or stock and set on 275°

8 hours later.....(I touched them with the tongs and they fell apart)

I made this yesterday, fed the family dinner, and have enough leftover to eat for lunch a few times, and one night this week...for around $20

jnorton 01-18-2010 11:15 AM

Oh man. Is that a big crock pot you cooked them in?

grandsport 01-18-2010 11:15 AM

Thank you Jakchel Ray.:)

Highway Star 01-18-2010 11:27 AM

A giant counter top roaster (just like a crock pot, but bigger, and more capable), identical to this...

Funny Gary. :rolleyes:Waving

jnorton 01-18-2010 11:37 AM

Sweet. I think my folks have one of these. I think it's time to cook.

grumpy 01-18-2010 12:19 PM

We have one of them counter top roasters and they are awesome. Used it once to make a pot of chili for near 50 people and it worked great ! Plus you can make a turkey in it if you want.

grandsport 01-18-2010 01:53 PM

What a crock this thread turned out to be.

You into the wine? Seems like you're well seasoned already.

I just did that same thing a week before Christmas Jake, it was delicious. Although I sauted my beef first, then used a red wine to deglaze the pan I sauted with and poured that over the beef in the roaster as well.

We brought it over to my grandmas house, Had a great dinner with her, and then took her out for a few hours looking at christmas lights. Shes 86 now and wont drive at night anymore, so she hasnt been able to see Christmas lights in a few years.

It was a great night for sure.

Jeff

Highway Star 01-18-2010 04:06 PM

Sounds good Jeff, & you had two more layers of flavor than me...nice.

grandsport 01-18-2010 04:12 PM

I can't Mike.:( Maureen put all the furniture away for the winter.

Chris R 01-19-2010 12:31 AM

What sort of seasoning did you use for the veggies and meat then?

Highway Star 01-19-2010 06:24 AM

I used a general purpose seasoned salt (like Lawry's) & granulated onion/garlic mixture on the pork, and salt/white pepper on the vegetables.

grumpy 01-19-2010 07:55 AM

I know it may sound a bit goofy but I wonder if we should have a food forum. Some of the best things I tried were made from suggestions of the members of other boards.

Don't know about you guys but I'm always looking for new vittles idea :)

Highway Star 01-19-2010 08:42 AM

Not a bad idea there, Dave. I like it.

jnorton 01-19-2010 11:07 AM

Oh yeah. That would be a good place to swap chili recipies.

grumpy 01-19-2010 11:16 AM

Speaking of chili, man did I make a killer pot this weekend. Black bean, corn and chicken. :)

I will see if I can shuffle some stuff around and get the forum created soon.

Only if you turn down the sound on the TV.

Highway Star 01-19-2010 03:44 PM

This is the turkey that inspired stalkingbear to buy & cook his turkey day bird in a roaster...
