Raising the "gas tax"
That's exactly what some of our idiot elected officials are attempting to do. The main asshat trying to spearhead the movement for this is Rep Blumenauer from Oregon.
Ray, have you ever heard of this clown? I think it is time for a recall election to send him a crystal clear message. I know this is a bit political, but it affects our daily lives and our hobby. I felt it deserved a mention here. |
Our governor did that to us a few years ago ,it sucks .I hope this fails as it will affect everyone . I got a better idea for them ,line up all the corrupt politicians in front of a live firing squad .

they just did that in PA last week! 23cents per gallon! yeah like we dont pay enough as it is! someone sent me a picture saying "we should test our reps and senate to see if they are on drugs"

This latest push is for a nation wide increase from the current $0.18 per gallon to $0.33 per gallon. (Nearly double)
They it hasn't been increased in 20 years, but the rep I mentioned in my first post could not say where the billions they have collected over the past twenty years has gone. In fact, he refused to in an interview yesterday. I have a feeling it is some sort of way to get more funding for this garbage healthcare law - disguised as a tax increase to fix "roads and bridges." I call BS. There are roads around here that have been in a state of disrepair for decades. I know it is the same in every state. Let's be honest, the funds aren't being used for what they say they are. This is a horrible time for more taxes, it is just going to put more people out of work. |

Well the state of Michigan wants to charge people for the miles they drive every year. They are talking about putting something in the car to keep track of how many miles you drive, and then you have to pay for driving your own car. My question is, where is the money going to go.
Michigan has some of the worst roads/expressways. We use salt on the roads, which melts the ice and destroys the road, as well as destroying our cars. But I have lived in Indiana that uses sand, and I would take salt over sand on the roads any day. What's next ? Are they going to tax us for how many times we flush the toilet ? |

In a way, they do tax me everytime I flush the toilet. The Township makes us pay for the metered water of course, but now they are charging use a "sewer usage fee" based on the reading from the water meter.
I was at a Township meeting a while back. I attend nearly all of them. The County recieved a grant from the Feds to expand our "walking trails". The conversation just prior to that announcement was about how we need new tires for the fire-trucks, but don't have the funds for them. I asked why we couldn't use the walking trail money to buy tires instead of adding to the hundreds of miles that we already have. I was told by the State Rep that the money could only be used for the walking trails, a direct order from the White House. Like Nancy siad, we have the worst roads in the Country, but the idiots in DC think the stupid walking trails are more important than tires and real roads. Every one of them should be voted out of office, or as suggested above, target practice. |
Everybody living in MI agrees we have about the worst roads in country. I wonder if having the highest load limits for trucks has anything to do with it. There's trucks running around on our roads that can't leave MI because Ohio, Indiana and Illinois won't allow them on their roads. I guess raising fuel taxes is a better idea than lowering the weight limits.

What the jackasses keep forgeting is
ITS OUR OIL...drilled on american soil. Then exploited by big oil to make a profit at some out of thin air world market price. |
Newest one that passed last night "storm drainage tax" $100 a year for storm drains. All I can say is I dodged that one we are exempted from that since our township doesn't have storm drains we have creeks and rivers that our run off goes to....

This may be a little off subject, but goes with the gas tax issue. Tonight when I was out with my son Jacob. We passed a gas station and asked me why gas is listed with a partial penny amount. I honestly don't know, do you know why we are charged $3.299 for a gallon of gas ? Why don't they just make it $3.30 ?
|
I always thought it was just a way for them to charge more, as the average person will ignore the decimal and think it is 2.99 instead of just shy of 3.00.
|
It's always been that way but years ago that last 9 was real real small. So like Tony said you only see the $2.99 not $2.99.9. Same reason items in stores are never rounded up to a whole dollar, it's $199.99 instead of $200. People ignore the cents so it looks cheaper. Anyway current law here says that last 9 on gas prices must be at least 1/2 the size of the other numbers.
If the price of gas is $3.16.9 do you see $3.17 or $3.16? |
