Plastic Model paints

Back on Dec 2 2009. I rolled my pick up. I got cards and letters from friends & family from Calif, Fla. Mi, AZ. A good friend of mine. sent me something to keep me busy doing something. He sent me a 1970 Chevelle AMT model. I was floored. I haven't put one of these together in 35 yrs. I was really happy to start on this. I jumped right in reading the all about putting it together. Then I ran into a problem. Where can you find the right glue to put this together. And The paint?? I went to a couple of stores looking for it. Walmart, Target, ACE hardware!!! can't find what I need. Any help ????

Try a hobby shop.Should be able to hook you up. If you run in to a problem, ship it out to me and my boys will paint it for you.:)

There is a store around here called Hobby Lobby, and another called Michael's.

I don't know if they have them where you're at, but both of them sell models and supplies like paints, glue, brushes, etc.

From a little poking around, I see that Testors has a website...and a store:

I would hope you paint it black. Get the proper dimensions for the stripes too!

ya know I built about 20 to 30 models back in the day. I would put them together in a afternoon sitting on my porch. I had funny cars ,Dragsters. & just regular cars all over the place. Now at my age. Its going to be like starting all over again. Not saying i'm old!! But man its been a loooong time. I'd like to build a model garage with tools and car parts laying around. I've seen something like that. But it had to do with Motoercycles. Its was Kool as Hell. Something to get into during these dark, cold, cloudy ,dreary days

Well Gary: RED has been my favorite color for most of my life. I like Black. But I could never keep it clean. I had a 4 door dually pick up for 3 yrs. As soon as I was finished washing and cleaning it up. Go in take a shower. It was all dusty again. Love the truck. Just could make myself happy with it. Always trying to dust it off. I since bought a white truck. Hell it looks clean most of the time :)

Thanks Jake for that info. If this trip to the store. Doesn't work out. I'll go on line to order some. Thanks again.............Rick

Here's a good website where you can learn tons of tips and come up with some great ideas...

When the fine, upstanding youth started dumping the glue into paper bags and snorting it, model plastic cement became harder to find. You can also use the 'super glue gel'. It would probably be a pretty good substitute. I have some Locktite EXTREME Repair glue that seems to be a good choice also. (Got it at AutoZone I think)

YUP!! It worked out great. Wife had the day off. Did lunch together. Stopped at a few places . Then I asked her if she wanted to stop at Michael's. Found everything i needed right there. Paint was under lock & key. :( But it Saved me about 15 miles extra plus about about 45 mins in time. Thanks again Jake.:)

Any hobby store should carry some spray paints for your model but the choices are not as good as the were 10 years ago and getting a primer base coat is not carried very much anymore so just use flat white and go from there. Show us some pictures when you done.

I've got probably close to 30 models in my basement that haven't been touched. I'll get around to them someday. I've got most of the Chevelles offered, and a GTX, GNX, 69 Daytona, and a 67 Coronet... Even got a 1/24 scale F4,P38 and a WWII Corsair.

I didn't know you were here, welcome. Now we have another Red Wings fan on board. You may know me as Finally from other sites you visit.
