Ice today

So today I spent a couple of hours outside trying to get rid of some of this ice, so I don't fall down. The shop has an awning that is 44' long by 8' wide. It was loaded with snow on top of the ice. I get the snow-scraper and all the extension handles out and go to town. I raked all the snow off and most of the ice. Had a big pile, so I got the tractor out and cleaned it up. Then took the heavy steel snow shovel and scraped the driveway and sidewalk going into the shop. See, I don't like to fall, so I did a good job. Got it real clean. I went in the house around 5. It started to rain, ever so slightly, the temp was right at freezing. At around 5:30, I went out the side door of the house garage. That rain turned into a sheet if ice. I fell down, hard. Hurt my bad knee, my kinda good knee, both wrists, my back, and smashed my head. I laid there for a few minuets, with the dogs thinking I was playing with them. I couldn't get up, so I pounded on the wall for Kathy to drag my ass back into the garage. She heard me, but she thought I was working on something, so she didn't come out. Got tired of laying on the ice, getting colder by the second, so I crawled back in. I hate winter.

Tony ,I hope you are OK after all that ,I hate all that snow and ice crap ,we have not got any yet but I know we will . Be careful up there , I know ya'll get all the nasty stuff .

shadowgray396 12-29-2013 07:19 PM

Tony, hope you will be ok. I've had to work the last 4 days out in the ice. It's not fun.

RBeckman 12-29-2013 08:41 PM

Damn Tony I hope you are ok. If you need anything let me know as I'm getting bored around here. Same thing happened here with the ice, when Haley got home from work she said she could not get her car up,the driveway and asked me if I could and fell on my ass as we'll but just a little sore. I got the salt out and salted driveway so I could get her car up driveway and into garage.

Moving to Arizona with my son for the winter months is looking better every day. I love Michigan but this is getting old.

FlintTony 12-30-2013 04:16 AM

Yeah, I'm OK guys. Pretty sore this morning.

Ray, what do you do for a living? Power lines?

John, I checked the 10 day forecast and it looks like I'll have smooth driving through Georgia next weekend. I sure hope so. Can't wait to get to Florida.

Ric, you'll most likely be sore today too. Are you off work until the first, or do you go back next week?

Hank70SS 12-30-2013 07:25 AM

Hope you guys are okay. Guess we got lucky, there was a little drizzle last night but the driveway and road looks dry, I didn't fall on my ass when I got the paper this morning. The dog did some slipping and sliding in the backyard. What snow is left is a sheet of ice on top.

Tony ,be careful going through Ga ,the smoky's are planning to hit I 75 hard .

Little sore but feel good that I got the car up the driveway when my 19 year old know it all said it could not be done...never under estimate dad.

I go back on Jan 2, I have been off for 20 days and ready to go back, but know I will change my mind by Jan 3.

I'm a contract surveyor, but this week I have been driving high voltage power lines checking for problems along the lines. My work happens almost no matter what the weather is. Roads have been icy from the fog, but not untravelable. GPS allows me to do my work no matter what the weather is. I stay home if it is unsafe to travel.

Yea, we could have been doing all kinds of guy stuff. Working on cars, drinking beer, shooting guns, drinking beer and telling lies.

flash 12-30-2013 07:34 PM

Ya'll tell LIES ,not here .We just stretch the truth a little bit.

I hope you guys are OK. It sure seems like the ice here in Michigan, can be paper thin and more dangerous that it is when it is inches thick. I was at my sisters house out near Oxford last night. She lives near a nature preserve and the roads leading back to her house are all dirt roads. When we got to her house around 1 pm, the roads were muddy in spots and thick ice in others. When we left about 7pm, it was all pretty slippery, and there are no barriers on the side of the roads, the road just drops off in spots. It was a little hairy when a vehicle was passing you, but the AWD on the van really helped.

I am not looking forward to more snow and ice, especially on New Years eve and New Years day. Especially since my daughter will be bartending about 15 miles from her house.

I hate ice and snow .

Sounds like interesting work. I assume that you travel a lot. I've been dealing with the surveyors down there in Florida.

I know the time did get away from me. I was planning on calling Hank and making a trip over...but life and laziness got in the way. Maybe when you get back from Florida we can set something up.
