Man I want a burger !

A couple months ago grumpy went to his doctor and his doctor told him that he would not see him again til he watched a movie called "Fat, sick and almost dead". Now his doctor did this because he wanted grumpy to lose some weight. So we watched this movie and decided that we were going to do this crazy reboot.

So last Wednesday we started. We are only drinking juice that I make everyday, many times a day. Now let me tell you, grumpy is a meat and potatoe kind of guy. His idea of vegetables is lettuce and tomatos, maybe peas and green beans....that's it. Well this diet has kale, cucumbers, beets, sweet potatoes, celery along with a variety of fruits.

I love giving him the juices I make everyday and seeing the look on his face. His scowl, and cringe, knowing that he is actually drinking vegetables. I am loving it. lol He is actually doing pretty good, it is me who is having a hard time... I want a burger.

So I was curious, what is the craziest things that you guys have ever had to eat, or were fed by the relatives.

By the way, we are on day #4 and grumpy has already lost double digits.

Hank70SS 01-11-2014 03:51 PM

Nothing crazy that I can think of. Lynda was doing the Weight Watchers meals for a while. I kinda liked it because it was different, some variety.

We just limit the sodium ,sugar and fat ,not that it seems to help. We exercise when were able but my back limits what I can do there.

carpoor 01-11-2014 05:14 PM

I gained 20lbs while on workmans comp, haven't lost an ounce yet. I have changed what I eat, and the amount. I thought for sure I would have lost 2-3lbs by now. Went to an Italian restaurant today, I wanted a pizza in the worst way. But, I settled for a small meatball parm sub and didn't eat half of the bread. I left there hungry. :(

shadowgray396 01-11-2014 05:33 PM

Beef is not part of my diet for over 3 years now. I had to go on a 1200 calorie diet 3 years ago and lost 45 lbs. once you start you can never go back to your old habits if you want to keep the weight off. Looks like I get to drop another 20 lbs since I have slack off.

BillsCamino 01-11-2014 06:31 PM

About two months ago we changed over all our grocery purchases to Organic...following my son and his family's lead.
Things actually DO taste better.
Wife's dropped about 15 lbs...me, about 8 lbs.

Stormer 01-11-2014 06:47 PM

Good luck to Mrs and Mr Grumpy, its very good to loose wheight!

mestorod70 01-17-2014 10:21 AM

Ya coulda had a V8....and veggie burgers are not to bad.!

Ms Grumpy 01-25-2014 06:35 PM

Well as of yesterday, 17 days, I have lost over 20lbs. And I took David to the doctor and he took him off of 3 of his medications. It may not seem like a lot, but for David it is great. He has lost 17lbs so far. We will start going to the gym and pool this week, I can't wait to see how this will impact our progress.

Since I started this I bought a Nutribullet, which is so easy to use and clean up. It would take me 15 minutes to clean the juicer and it takes maybe 2 minutes to clean up the bullet. Only difference is that it is a lot thicker with the Nutribullet because it grinds everything up and doesn't take out the pulp. But it is working so far.

carpoor 01-25-2014 09:09 PM

Congrats! I was down 7lbs Monday. That put me at 183, I have 13lbs to go before I am back to where I was before the injury. Trying to get the rest of this weight off by my birthday. (May 11th)

If not, I know I will sweat off the rest over the summer.

Hank70SS 01-26-2014 07:19 AM

Good for you guys. Due to abdominal surgery decades ago I can't put on weight but I know it's tough trying to take it off.

Nancy, Lynda joined Planet Fitness a few weeks ago. Basic plan is $10 a month. A better plan, you get some perks is $20 a month. For the $20 plan you can use any Planet Fitness not just your 'home' one where you joined. You can also take a guest as often as you want, plus some other things. Anyway for $20 a month you and David could both go if interested. Lynda likes the place, no weight lifters, "I pick things up and put them down". They have a ton of equipment and a trainer that will help you any time you want.

Lynda got the better plan because our daughter Susan always wants to go when she's her. Plus Lynda can go while we're in FL. Guess I should get motivated and join her when she goes.

Ms Grumpy 01-26-2014 05:49 PM

Good for you ! I wish I only had 13 lbs to lose. But no matter what, we have made changes that we will live with for the rest of our lives. But I can't wait for the weather to break so I can pull out my smoker. Just having some food with some taste will be awesome. lol

flash 01-26-2014 06:55 PM

I need to lose a lot of weight myself ,its getting harder to do.

carpoor 02-09-2014 08:31 PM

So have you had a burger yet? :D I have, but not like I normally do. No bun, no bacon, etc. :( Basically meat and cheese, with mustard and relish. I was down to 181.5 last time I checked. The weight is coming off slower now.

Yes we have. But not a beef burger, it was a Turkey burger with a hamburger seasoning that we love in it. We had it on whole wheat, low cal buns and we allowed ourselves to have a little bit of mayo, mustard and catsup. COSTCO sells a jar of tiny pickles that if you have 2 it is only like 40 calories, so we had those with the burgers. Was it the same, no, but after having juice and salad and chicken it was a welcome change and the first bread product we have had in 5 weeks. It was good.

So here is an update. We just finished week #6 and I have lost 30lbs, David has lost 28lbs and Lauren has lost 15lbs. I am pretty proud of all of us. We have started at a local gym that has a heated pool, hot tub, indoor tennis courts, indoor basketball courts and all my kids have access to everything at anytime the gym is open. The only one who doesn't is my youngest, Leah. You have to be 15 to swim in the pool alone. Not a problem because all 5 of us go and David has been using the pool to get some stretching exercises and it takes the strain off of his back. My next goal is to have lost 40lbs by my birthday which is early next month. I have a ways to go, but I am making attainable goals.

carpoor 02-18-2014 06:32 PM

Great progress! I cheated and had a "real" burger Sunday afternoon at a car show. It was good, but not as good as I remembered. Last weigh in, 179.5 lbs. I am 4.5 lbs away from my goal weight.

Great Job !! Good for you ! I have been holding around the 30lb loss. We have had a crazy few weeks and throw a wedding in the middle, a day out with the kids where we ate at a couple restaurants and it has made it difficult. Also had my 7yr old grand daughter who wants to eat every few hours. Then last week I worked out with a trainer and ended up hurting my leg so I was slow moving. Today was actually the first day that I was able to work out. I will get back on track just been very hectic around here.

flash 03-07-2014 06:40 PM

Are ya'll still losing weight ? We had a real burger for you both last week.

lol That's cruel John.

flash 03-08-2014 02:30 PM

Im blaming it on Joan ,she wanted one badly .

Ms Grumpy 03-08-2014 08:10 PM

Yes we are John. It is not as fast as we wanted. Partially because my birthday feel on the 1st of March and I had a birthday dinner with my kids and then my daughter took me out to Micheal Symon's restaurant Roast in Downtown Detroit. We had a really nice dinner, it was a real treat. But we took a few steps backwards, but we are on the right track. Actually both of us have lost almost 40lbs so far. I don't think that is too bad for the 2 months since we have changed our diet.

carpoor 03-09-2014 01:19 PM

Keep up the good fight. 40 lbs in two months is great progress! I am down another pound - 172... butt naked on Publix's scale. (I am not allowed to go back in there for some reason though.)

In all seriousness, I was 178 on their scale last night. That is fully dressed, essentials in my pockets, and a .45 caliber Glock handgun in my waistband. I figure the clothes, keys, wallet, & gun are good for 6 lbs of weight. That said, 2lbs to go. But, I am in horrible shape even though I am going back down in weight. The muscle tone in my upper body is next to nothing. Had a few co workers tell me that I was "in great shape before I got hurt", and that they hope I am able to bounce back to where I was. :(

I have been unable to exercise due to pains in my arm. I am just too sore after a day of work to lift weights. Yet, work isn't enough - because I am not regaining muscle tone and strength.

Ms Grumpy 03-09-2014 05:40 PM

Believe me we are proud of the weight that we have lost. And today walking around the AutoRama I could feel how much better I felt. I did not have the lower back pain that I would have before the weight loss and even David did pretty good. We spent 4 hours walking around and in the past we might have made it 1/2 that time.

It is hard to exercise after you are hurt so for you to have lost all the weight you needed to is good. But with that said, your muscle weight was probably the first to go, or at least that is the way I was told. In time your arm will feel better and you will be able to exercise it. Slow and steady wins the race.

carpoor 05-17-2014 10:07 PM

Just wanted to bump this up and see how you were doing in this journey. And to mention that I had a burger at my favorite local burger joint this past Tuesday. ;)

I have been as light as 164 recently, but stay right around 168 pretty consistently. I quit my main job last week and picked up more hours at my secondary job. Back in school, started this week. I feel better already.

Ms Grumpy 05-18-2014 10:22 PM

Well since my last post we have done pretty good. Then I had to make a sample cake for a wedding, and of course like any good baker I had to test everything to make sure it was up to my standards.

Then 3 days later we headed off to South Carolina for 4 days, with my smoker in the trailer. I volunteered, last year, to make pulled pork for a gathering of 70 people. I also made an Antipasta salad and Waldorf salad for all of them. Traveling made it very hard to follow our healthier diet. I did take my nurtibullet but could only use it in the morning. And then I just spent the last 3 days at an Art and Craft fair with my daughter.

Our eating habits have been very disrupted for the past 3 weeks. But I will say that my weight loss was 50lbs and Davids was 54lbs at the beginning of May. After everything that we have been thru for the past 3 weeks... I am at 49lbs and David is at 50lbs. We both have a lot of catching up to do, but I honestly think that we did pretty good for being away from home and our crazy schedule. Now I just have to make it thru doing a wedding cake at the end of this month. lol

flash 05-19-2014 11:24 AM

Congrats ,ya'll have done great .

carpoor 05-19-2014 02:08 PM

You only gained one pound back after all that, I'd say that's pretty amazing. Keep up the good work! A good friend of mine is doing the whole 30 diet with his wife. He is down almost 45 lbs since January 1st. (He's trying to lose weight to make his race car faster he says.)

That is funny that you say that about his race car because when I picked up my car out of storage I was looking forward to "not" having to buy seat belt extenders because the belts were getting tight. When I got in and put the belt on I had the biggest smile on my face because the seat belts were actually loose. :)

I have to say thank you to everyone for all the support. It makes the journey a lot easier.

carpoor 10-09-2014 09:01 PM

Any updates? I am holding a steady 165. I've been fairly consistent with my diet, but cheat here and there to stay sane.

Ms Grumpy 10-10-2014 09:06 PM

Thank you for asking. I think I have hit a plateau. I just can't seem to get past 65lbs. Yep, I have lost 65lbs and I am so thrilled. It has been a month where I am up or down a few pounds but I really want to hit 70lbs. It is great other than none of my winter cloths fit. I have dropped off 2 large bags of cloths at the Salvation Army or gave some to friends to see if they could use them. I was lucky to find a cheap winter coat because mine is really big. I am still using the Nutribullet everyday, eating lean meat, chicken, turkey and avoiding fast food. Out one splurge is Pizza like we did last night.

carpoor 10-11-2014 07:28 AM

65 pounds is great! I had pizza last night too. lol

They say those last few lbs are a pain to get rid of. Some are able the to shake it loose by actually adding a few hundred more calories believe it or not.

Ms Grumpy 10-11-2014 09:33 PM

Adding a few more calories. I am in for that. lol

I think we just need to get back into the gym routine. Summer really threw that off and I actually kind of miss it and so do the kids.

flash 10-15-2014 07:27 PM

Well guys and gals ,its time for me to join you in losing some weight ,I hope .After going for my annual physical my doc was not very happy with my weight or blood pressure so Im going to give it a go .We started eating less and more healthy on sunday and will see how it goes on about 800 calories per day .I will let you know how I fare ,ya"ll are my inspiration .

carpoor 10-15-2014 11:44 PM

You can do it John. If it was easy, everyone would do it!

flash 10-17-2014 11:32 AM

Well I know Im just getting started but I have lost 5 pounds since sunday so its a good start .I have a long way to go but I will make it .

Ken Hayes 10-17-2014 01:13 PM

I can do that takin a good dump................hehehe.

flash 10-17-2014 01:43 PM

You be full of it ,well you were .LOL

Ms Grumpy 10-17-2014 10:27 PM

John the biggest thing that will help is eating veggies and fruit more. If you think about it you can pretty much eat as much veggies as you want because most don't have that many calories, at least the green one don't. I am sure that Joan watches what she eats, but dropping to 800 calories is low for a man. Try increasing your fiber as much as you can. Than you can take a dump like Ken. lol

carpoor 10-18-2014 07:46 AM

This thread has taken a "dirt road"... Literally!

;)

flash 10-18-2014 08:16 PM

We do eat lots of veggies and fruits and eat very healthy ,just need to watch the portion sizes mostly .And plenty of fiber too. We dont add salt at all ,dont even like the taste anymore .Im in for the long run and plan on getting my bike ready to ride again.
