On the road

Man it would be nice to get home soon. I've been on the road since January 7th. Was in Florida visiting my daugter, got home and left the next day for out of town work. Will get home for one day again and then I have to drive to Phoenix Az the next day. Not sure for how long. Most likely will not be back until early Febuary. Sounds like this next run will be 10 to 20 days.

flash 01-17-2014 07:47 PM

I dont envy you being on the road so much for work but you got to pay the bills ,been there ,done that.

Hank70SS 01-18-2014 07:11 AM

I use to travel for work but usually not one trip right after another. Living out of hotel rooms gets old real fast.

BillsCamino 01-18-2014 07:20 AM

Me...I love to travel. Heading for Dublin on Wednesday, in fact. I will be leaving the driving to someone else though. :)

RBeckman 01-18-2014 07:35 AM

Been there and done that and got the tee shirts. I used to travel to all the GM truck plants in the late 80s and early 90s and it got really old as they are not in the best places. Now I only travel very little for work. I'll be in Europe for 2 weeks in March which I'm not looking forward to. I like being home.

shadowgray396 01-21-2014 06:35 PM

Got delayed this week, so I at home and not leaving until monday. But no work for me until then. Looks like the job will only be 5 days so I will be flying home by the weekend.

Ms Grumpy 01-21-2014 08:19 PM

I am glad that you got some home time Ray. I hope the delay didn't take any work/pay from you. I never had a job that made me travel until I started working from home. I did work 60-70 hours a week on my feet and I used to love it when we had a General Manager meeting. Reason being that they usually held it about 2 hours from my store, and only 1/2 hour from my house.

shadowgray396 01-21-2014 08:24 PM

Doing some training this week to learn how to run a scan truck we have. Will be scanning some highways driving about 50 mph down them collecting data for improvements.

Also delayed my trip...big snow storm on the East Coast and figured it wasn't worth the hassle...I've gotta go thru JFK to DUB.
Maybe next week or after the Super Bowl.

flash 01-22-2014 08:40 AM

Bill ,when you do finally get over there tell Liz and Liam we said Hello.

Ms Grumpy 01-22-2014 07:41 PM

Yeah, what flash said. lol

shadowgray396 01-26-2014 09:21 AM

Getting ready today to travel 20 plus hours to my next job. Leave tomorrow bright and early.

flash 01-26-2014 11:44 AM

Travel safely Ray ,hope you get back home soon.

Ms Grumpy 01-26-2014 05:39 PM

I second that.

shadowgray396 01-27-2014 11:47 PM

12 hours of driving today. Weather was cloudy, but no rain or snow. Dropped down through Reno. wish I could have been able to stop. Tomorrow I go through Las Vegas and onto Phoenix. Have about 9 hour drive left.

Ms Grumpy 01-28-2014 05:44 PM

Hey Ray, wave at my daughter as you pass through Las Vegas tomorrow. :)

Hate those long days of driving. I've done it for work, when we were out west and to/from FL. Now we take our time and try to enjoy the trip.

shadowgray396 01-29-2014 07:26 PM

Completed my one day job and had time to enjoy the small town of Payson Az. What a cool town. Lots of trees and up in the mountains. Not the typical desert country. Reminds me of Bend Oregon. Most likely I will fly home tomorrow and sometime in the next month fly back to pick up the truck and head to some other state.

Ken Hayes 01-29-2014 08:05 PM

Ray, they have a week long rodeo during August........it is a total riot where the whole town gets involved.......hardly any cars on main street but sure alot of horses.

shadowgray396 01-29-2014 08:31 PM

Funny you mention that, I had to wait on the main road today while a group with horses went down main drag and held everyone up.

shadowgray396 01-31-2014 06:00 PM

Returned home to find out there is no work for me next week. I'm going to have to look for a new job if this keeps up. Hard to leave, they seem to want to work low seniority people first. It not just me, but this is effecting a lot more then me at work.

Ken Hayes 01-31-2014 07:48 PM

Man what a bummer Ray. How long ya been with the company? What do you do? Best of luck to ya.

Been there 36 years, I'm a license Land Surveyor. Work in Oregon has been slow for the last 5 years. I went on the road hoping the scan truck we have would keep me busy, but a couple of jobs got cancelled or delayed.

Hank70SS 02-01-2014 06:52 AM

Bummer Ray, hopefully things will pick up soon.

shadowgray396 04-02-2014 10:38 PM

Out on the road again to keep working. Some days it's all worth it. This was my view yesterday, looking at Mt Baker and toward Bellingham Washington at Lake Whatcom. Almost on the Canada border where I'm working for the next few weeks.

RBeckman 04-03-2014 07:49 AM

Ray that view is worth a million dollars...the older I get the more I appreciate those kind of views.

shadowgray396 04-20-2014 08:20 PM

Headed on a 10 day run for work. Will be in Phoenix Az, then into New Mexico and onto Denver Co. for work next week. Then I maybe headed to LA. Thats still in the air at this point. I'll take what work I can get right now.

flash 04-20-2014 08:22 PM

Stay safe out there ,post up some interesting sights you see.

shadowgray396 04-22-2014 10:11 PM

Flew into Phoenix this morning, picked up the scan truck and headed to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Actually got to drive some on Route 66 today, didn't have any time to stop though. Made it into Albuquerque, New Mexico by 7:30 pm their time. I been up since 4am this morning. Still have about another 7 hr drive into Denver tomorrow. Was 91 today across the desert.

Ms Grumpy 04-23-2014 09:11 PM

Just be careful Ray. Don't over do the driving, get some rest. Safe travels.

shadowgray396 04-26-2014 04:36 AM

Been working the night shift here in Denver. It's now 3:35am in the morning. I'm ready for bed. Been up since 8am yesterday.

shadowgray396 05-02-2014 08:12 AM

Only been home for 1 night in the last 10 days. I have to admit its gets old being on the road. Long hours at times and hotel rooms. Coming home today and will only be home for 2 days and back out for another 10 days. At least the weather has been nice. Been in 5 western states. Heading next week as far north as I can go without going into canada. I was told this job may last until July with 10 runs on it. Still not much work around home. I'm going to miss some of my favorite car shows since I won't be home on some weekends.

shadowgray396 05-08-2014 08:26 PM

Just found out that my trip out of town will be until the 22nd. That will be 17 straight days away from home.

Ken Hayes 05-08-2014 08:41 PM

When you get home your wife is gonna look at you and say "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?

shadowgray396 05-08-2014 10:23 PM

It will be SHOW ME THE MONEY. Lol

shadowgray396 05-20-2014 10:20 PM

One more full day of work and I finally get to go home. Only going to be there for the Holiday weekend and I'm back on the road for another 10 day run. Need to find some work closer to home. Just glad to be finally working steady right now. I have missed 2 of my a few cars show I would have loved to gone too.

Ms Grumpy 05-21-2014 06:50 PM

I feel your pain, at least about the car shows. I hope you get the opportunity to enjoy some time soon in your car. After you clean the cobwebs off of it. lol

flash 05-21-2014 08:14 PM

Ray ,enjoy your time at home real soon.

shadowgray396 05-21-2014 09:24 PM

Thanks, it's going to be short. 4 days will fly bye.
