so i got offered this for trade

Ok so i wake up this morning with an email with someone wanting to trade my ls1 powered rx7 for a 1972 L30 option lemans. i have no idea what it is worth he put a price tag of 5k on it and my rx7 was appraised at 11k but to be honest i would sell it for 6500 right now. but anyway here is the car what are your thoughts?

so what do you guys think?

fleming23 05-28-2014 12:51 PM

I really like a LeMans, or really a GTO but this picture alone would have me scared. Is that rusted through on the driver quarter? What do the trunk pans & floor look like? My guess is, sitting under a tree, they are pretty bad but who knows.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps49ff4805.jpg

Personally, I don't think it is worth it unless you get to pull the driveline from the Mazda to stick in this!

SS Shaun 05-28-2014 01:40 PM

from his email reply
"Its a 350 big block Pontiac need new trunk floor and lower quarters"

flash 05-28-2014 01:40 PM

I like the Pontiac but dont think that one is worth anywhere near $5000 .

SS Shaun 05-28-2014 02:21 PM

yeah i am starting to think more and more about it and its not worth it

carpoor 05-28-2014 03:32 PM

Fairly rare car, saw it on Facebook. (Pontiac Parts group) I feel from what I have seen, that car could go for $20K easy - fully redone. Is it worth $5K? Without seeing it in person, hard to say. I feel it is a $3500-$4000 car as is.

Pontiac has no "big block." lol They are all 39* bank, and share the same outside dimensions. (The 301 is an odd ball, low deck, etc.)

I feel your RX7 is more turn key, sorted out, etc. And therefore worth double what that Lemans is worth in its current state. Take it FWIW...

I'd love to have that Lemans GT, we have a spare 400. I'd redo it and make it more correct. Not many of them around anymore.

grandsport 05-28-2014 05:39 PM

I would do the deal in a heartbeat!

shadowgray396 05-28-2014 06:26 PM

Do you want another project??? Rust is most likely more then what he is saying in the car. Are the quarters and floor pans available in after market parts. One would need to do some research first on what parts are available. Not worth 5k in my opinion. Does the engine even run? I have so many questions. Lol

carpoor 05-28-2014 06:31 PM

Ray, the parts are available. We're doing a 72' Lemans Sport for my father currently. Pretty much everything has been available so far. The P O N T I A C script on the deck lid is the only thing I had to purchase used thus far. Much is interchangeable with other GM A Body cars.

Ms Grumpy 05-28-2014 07:14 PM

Dollar for dollar... I would ask for cash with the deal.

SS Shaun 05-28-2014 09:55 PM

yeah i asked him for 3k on top but he feels because the car is worth 20-30k after its redone he has a bigger value so i told him no thanks

It may be worth more once redone, but getting it there would be on your dime. You made the right call Shaun. A friend of mine offered him a clean 2001 S10 extended cab with 50k miles, loaded with options, 17" ZR1 wheels - straight up trade. He turned his nose up at it. I told my friend that he's obviously too proud of it.

SS Shaun 05-29-2014 12:57 PM

yeah he went into a rant here is his message
Quote:

Well I'm not going to get in a pissing war with u if ur going to throw something out there don't start dogging mine this car was my brothes that died in afghanistan fighting for our freedom me and him have over 8k into this car
so i told him
Sounds good good luck on the sale

and now he wants to reply with
Quote:

So u don't want it??
and i told him I do want it but you and i will never make a deal so pass it along

carpoor 05-29-2014 04:47 PM

Someone else's emotional attachment doesn't constitute you paying more than it is worth. When he comes to term with that, he will find a buyer.

Ms Grumpy 05-29-2014 09:06 PM

No dollar amount will ever be enough because he is so emotionaly attached to this car because of his brother. It is sad, but like carpoor said, when he comes to terms with that...he might be able to sell it. But not if he leaves it under that tree much longer.

Ms Grumpy 05-29-2014 09:10 PM

I started thinking about this guys attachment and it made me think. I bought my car from my brother over 16 yrs ago. I paid him $1,600 for the car in pieces. He told me that he bought the car because he saw the potential and so did I. Many, many, many thousands of dollars later...I have the car that I want and I too have an attachment to the car. But I know that the dollar amount that I have put into it...is not necessarily the dollar amount that I could get if I ever sold it. That is the price we pay for having this kind of "hobby".

SS Shaun 05-30-2014 09:27 AM

o i totally agree with you. I know that i am getting close to the 20k mark on my chevelle but i might be able to get 20k for it if i sell it. i am hoping when i am done with phase one of my car i will be at 25k but then when phase 2 comes i am going to be doomed..lol

Oh hell yes....

Thank Heaven for the Classic car insurance companies. I know that when I first filled out the paperwork I listed a lot of things and sent in some great pictures of what they wanted. And then I put in an agree upon amount that I thought they would question, but no...they sent me an approval and they even raised my value this year. Well worth every penny I pay. Considering I used to carry the minimum insurance thru my regular car insurance company because they did not have a policy to fully cover a car as modified as mine.

Ken Hayes 05-31-2014 05:36 PM

Nancy, who you insured by?

Ms Grumpy 05-31-2014 07:39 PM

Grundy. I searched most of them and I really got good feedback from people who had Grundy. I also know that one of the woman in the Chevelle Club of Michigan is a Grundy rep. I just have to fill out paperwork and she will be my insurance rep.

Ken Hayes 05-31-2014 09:14 PM

Velma Smathers. We will be parked next to them tomorrow at the Pier 500 show in Wyandotte put on by Metrocruisers.

Ms Grumpy 06-01-2014 07:16 PM

Yep...Hope you had a good time. I had to finish up one of my gardens yesterday and today. I have been neglecting my car since she has been home. I just have had so much to do.

Ken Hayes 06-01-2014 08:38 PM

Was a pretty good show. Not a whole lot of space for parking but they had around 50-60 cars. Food service at the Pier 500 sucked big time.

SS Shaun 06-08-2014 07:58 PM

another trade offer
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps3db88338.jpg
Not sure if you where the one that wanted to trade with me a while back for my 83 Monte Carlo , as I am looking for a covertable would you still consider a trade plus cash for my car?[/img]

carpoor 06-08-2014 08:13 PM

Ehh... how much cash? I guess it is more family friendly, has more room and a back seat. But it would be hard for me to part with the RX7 - you just went through all the work of the engine swap, etc.

I am not a fan of those wagon wheels and the non SS cars. JMHO

flash 06-08-2014 08:30 PM

I like it ,would make a real sleeper or a cool daily driver.

SS Shaun 06-08-2014 08:54 PM

i did all that work so i can keep the value of my rx7 up. with the stock motor its only worth about 4k with that v8 in it its worth 11k

shadowgray396 06-09-2014 12:31 AM

83 Monte Carlo not a popular car.

LSX Muscle 06-09-2014 10:13 AM

Its not a SS... I used to have an 85 SS and its way too easy to find those cars so the value of them is not that great. If it was an Aerocoupe that would be another story they are more valuable.

SS Shaun 06-09-2014 11:38 AM

thanks for the input as always..lol

RBeckman 06-09-2014 05:06 PM

Who in the hell puts white wagon wheels on a muscle car? Wonder what his rear grafics are?

lol So true. The thing about trading is... at least in my experience, people try to stick you with their problems. I traded my 96' Chevy truck for a 91' formula 5.7 with some upgrades. The more I dug into the car... let's just say I should have sold my truck outright. I dumped that car for a loss and never looked back.

SS Shaun 06-09-2014 10:04 PM

yeah well my daughter came to me and said "daddy i am so happy you finished the red car. I cant wait to drive in it this summer!" I guess the rx7 is going no where

RBeckman 06-10-2014 12:32 AM

We see who is the boss in your household.

SS Shaun 06-10-2014 08:33 AM

o yeah she is. 4 going on 40 she has a thing for cars with me. she loves going to the car shows to see all the cars the colors the shiny motors. she already got on me about not having a shiny enough motor..lol

flash 06-10-2014 08:40 AM

I think she helped you make the right decision .

SS Shaun 06-10-2014 08:58 AM

lol she has helped me a lot she is the one who picked my chevelle..lol

RBeckman 06-10-2014 07:34 PM
