Been Quite Around Here

Seems like everyone must be out enjoying good weather. It's been a little light with activity lately around here.

I have been really busy lately ,couple of non paying side jobs ,home projects and that sort of thing .Our weather comes and goes ,lot of thunderstorms lately in the north Ga area .

SS Shaun 06-05-2014 09:07 AM

flash 06-05-2014 11:21 AM

Im hoping this stormy weather pattern leaves us soon ,last several cruise ins have been rained out .Im hoping to take the truck out saturday to a cruise in and if the weather holds long enough to get the Malivert out later that evening before it thinks I have forgotten her .

Hank70SS 06-05-2014 06:06 PM

Been pretty busy too. Now that the weather is nice there's a lot of stuff to be done outside. Started a project I should have passed on but too late now. I'll post some pictures in a few days of this project guys my age shouldn't consider.

Ms Grumpy 06-05-2014 08:24 PM

Sorry guys I have been really busy too. For the past 6 weeks I have been dealing with a cat with feline leukemia. I have been having to give him an IV and meds everyday. Topaz was our first adopted cat and we knew he had the leukemia but we thought we would have more than 22 months. We all took it really hard.

Then I had been working on getting my garden rebuilt, which I started over a week ago. In the middle of which we lost Topaz and last weekend I had a wedding cake for over 200 people to do. My family hates when I do a cake because I turn into a real bitch. I know I do, but I am dealing with the health of many people and I need things a certain way.

After delivering the cake I worked in the back yard all day Saturday and Sunday and Monday. Then it rains so I can't do much outside. Finally finished the garden on Wednesday. And today I tore apart the other 8 x 4 garden and built another 8 x 8 garden. I still need some dirt but my body wants some time off.

On the plus side. I finally have the time to take my car out this weekend and the weather is supposed to be nice. I just have to decide if I want to go to the C.A.R.S. show or another big show at a church in the neighborhood I grew up in. Decisions decisions....

shadowgray396 06-06-2014 01:02 AM

Just got back from a 10 day run out of town. Hoping to get the car out this weekend. I have been gone 27 days out of the last 31. Things around the house and the beach house are out of control. Heading down tomorrow morning to take care of the beach house yard and then back to our house to deal with the lawn there. Not sure if I'm gone again on monday again. Glad everyone is doing ok. Sorry to hear about your cat Nancy. Looking forward to seeing some pictures Hank on your project.

Nancy, Wilson's Barn Car Show is this Sunday. Its at W. Chicago & Middlebelt in Livonia. Last year there was around 650 entries there. I'm pre-registered already #13 on the list. Hopefully that will be my lucky number for a trophy. They said the show goes on rain or shine.

Ms Grumpy 06-06-2014 10:09 PM

13 is my daughters lucky # and I am hoping it is yours too. I am not sure what I am doing Sunday. I know that you have to be pre registered for the Barn show and that they are doing some on Saturday but I am still trying to decide if I am going to Rochester Hills for the C.A.R.S. show or to Fraser for a different show, but either way I will be on the other side of town.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I have heard that the barn show is an awesome show. Starting Monday it is the Cruising Gratiot week. All week long they have events every night then on Saturday they block off one lane for the classic cars that have purchased a "lane pass". It is only $10 and it no worse than paying a few dollars for a car show.

I have been in Cave Creek Arizona since Sunday getting to know my Granddaughter that was born in Feb...it has been in the 110 degree the whole time..we are also looking at retirement home as well to buy and rent out till we are ready.

shadowgray396 06-07-2014 08:44 AM

Congrats on the granddaughter. By daughter is due mid July. I think it's a girl, but we will see. She didn't want to know the sex of the baby.

Ken Hayes 06-07-2014 07:38 PM

Tell her its a girl......Lisa Ann is her name (maybe :-) )

grandsport 06-21-2014 07:18 PM

Girls are the best!

So, started last month cleaning and painting the gazebo. It's 13'x13' with hot tub inside. It's all ceder and was looking pretty bad. Decided to paint instead of trying to stain again. Looked pretty good when we got done except for the ceder shake roof. It was all gray, starting to curl and come loose. So peeled that off and re-shingled with regular roof shingles.

In the mean time our son was house hunting and wanted us with him when he looked at them. Well he did buy a house, closed several weeks ago, and we've been helping him clean and move some of his stuff. The previous owner is in his 80's, his wife passed away about 5 years ago and cleaning was not a top priority for him. It's a nice house and in good shape, just needs a really good cleaning and some painting inside.

Along with trying to cut the grass whenever it stops raining that's pretty much what's been keeping me busy and offline.

I never remember to take pictures before I start a project. Here are some pictures after we painted the gazebo and before the new roof. You can see some of the old ceder shake singles. The sides of cupola are pretty much what the rest of it looked like before we painted. Roof has too much pitch to do the cupola so I did that after we had the new shingles on. Last picture is completed project.

Never did post pictures of last years project. That's the one where we had the wooden beam on the upstairs deck replaced with an 8x8 steel H beam. It sits on 2 steel posts on top of 8" diameter, 48" deep cement pilings. Old wood beam sat on 4 metal posts that were just sitting on top of the cement patio. Going from 4 posts down to 2 cleaned things up a lot. I had the guy who installed it trim it and the face boards of the deck in aluminum. Then my son and I installed the vinyl to the bottom of the deck to finish it off. We also built the wall at the end of the patio. Four 4x4s cemented in. Backed by 2x6's, tar paper and back filled with pea gravel. There is drain pipe at the bottom behind the wall to carry the rain out under the steps. I finished of the face of the wall and enclosed the bottom of the steps. Looks a lot better than the old stone wall that was falling into the patio.

Okay gotta go cut the grass, think it's dry now and it's supposed to rain later and tomorrow and the next day.

The toilet was there when I was at your house last summer. You mean you actually plumbed it so it doesn't dump on ground anymore?

I think that is Camaro. Lol, You are going to have Camaro owners all over you if you misspell it. I have a friend and that is his pet peeve big time.

shadowgray396 06-30-2014 04:45 PM

Very nice Hank, looks like a lot of work. Very nice gazebo and a great looking yard.

Hank70SS 06-30-2014 04:57 PM

Thanks Ray. The roof was a pain, real steep pitch, cupola at the top was always in the way and the hip roof made for a lot of cutting and waste. The yard, since we're both retired we have time to take care of it.

How's the beach house coming? You've done a ton of work on that. In the last pics it looked like a new house.

shadowgray396 06-30-2014 05:09 PM

Finally got away from some of the ten day runs away from home, so I have been down every weekend for the last 3 weekends. Half the house is now wired and ready for an inspection, then I can pull all the old wiring out on the other half and move ahead. Just got a beam designed so I can drop the wall between the living room and kitchen. Like yours it's steel H beam. I think it weights around 300 lbs, so I'm going to need a little help getting it into place.

You think? You can rent a hand crank forklift to raise it. They used two to raise ours but it was over 700 lbs. 300 lbs isn't as bad but still a lot when you need to lift it over a few feet. Good luck, be careful.

flash 06-30-2014 06:18 PM

Hank ,nice work out there . Ray ,cant wait to see more of yours too.

I hear you, seems like I'm working a lot harder now then when I was employed, Or maybe it just seems that way because I'm older.

Just got back home for the weekend. Back on the road again next another 2 weeks on Tuesday. This is getting old fast.

Ms Grumpy 08-16-2014 06:05 PM

This was a busy weekend around here for me. A road trip across the state early in the week and then helping friends clean up after the flooding. Thursday catching up with a lot of things in the yard and around the house and cleaning the car. Friday afternoon the Berkley Parade, and today the Woodward Dream Cruise. Now tomorrow I have another 2 hour drive to take David to a gun show he really wants to go to. I was also just informed that I have to go and pick up another BMX bike for my son that hubby just bought for him.

When does it end ????????

That's where I have been. lol

grandsport 08-16-2014 07:03 PM
