Job Interview

Made a decission to apply for a new job after working for the same company for 37 years. I have made it through the first 2 steps and going on to the third. Nerve racking since I have not had to do this for along time. This would mean no more out of town work, a raise and more time off on the holidays.

flash 12-03-2014 09:25 PM

Good luck ,I hope you get it .

Ken Hayes 12-03-2014 09:33 PM

Best of luck Ray, you'll do fine.

carpoor 12-04-2014 06:36 AM

Sounds like a win win. Best of luck Ray, doubt you'll need it.

Ms Grumpy 12-04-2014 06:24 PM

Good for you Ray. Some people with that much time at a job don't want to start something new. But it sounds like it will be a perfect fit for your life now.
Good Luck !!

FlintTony 12-06-2014 05:02 AM

I hope it works out for you Ray. Good luck.

BillsCamino 12-06-2014 07:32 AM

Good luck Ray.

Strange thought I just had...being retired, I'll never have to go thru that interview process again.

Hank70SS 12-08-2014 01:33 PM

Any word Ray? Hope it works out for you.

flash 12-08-2014 01:43 PM

They will be getting a good guy if they hire you ,good luck .

Go for 3rd interview on Thursday. Should be my last one before they decided.
I leave friday for Florida, and start driving back home on Saturday with a 18' ft truck and car trailer and my daughter, son inlaw and granddaughter in tow. Hope the weather holds, its going to be a long drive home back to Oregon.

Ray,
If 'ya need a place to crash...I'm about 6 miles off I-75, just north of Atlanta in Marietta.
Plenty of room and safe parking!!
Lots of Chevelle guys have passed thru here over the years...:) Great weather forecast for the area this weekend too.

shadowgray396 12-08-2014 11:03 PM

I will keep that in mine. If nothing else would love to swing by and at least say hi. I will have to check the route they have picked to head home on.

BillsCamino 12-09-2014 01:33 PM

Ray...I'll PM 'ya my cell number...

They are leaving Florida huh? Sometimes I'd like to...

Ms Grumpy 12-10-2014 08:39 PM

It's tomorrow morning at 10am

shadowgray396 12-12-2014 12:26 PM

Did the final interview yesterday. Not exactly the job that was described. Not sure I want to do it if they choice me. I have a week to sleep on it. On a plane to Florida to meet up with the daughter and family.

shadowgray396 12-19-2014 04:18 PM

Accepted the job today after having a 2 hour meeting with them. I think it will work out fine now. Start mid January.

BillsCamino 12-19-2014 06:49 PM

Congrats Ray!!!

flash 12-19-2014 08:01 PM

Congrats Ray ,looking forward to a better year in 2015.

shadowgray396 12-23-2014 09:19 PM

Gave my notice today at work. After 37 years with the same company. Start January 12th at the new job. Get a holiday the following Monday. I get holidays I didn't get before.

FlintTony 12-24-2014 04:25 AM

Best of luck in the new place Ray.

shadowgray396 01-11-2015 01:12 AM

Last day at work yesterday. I walked out the door at 5 with not a soul around. Just a note to leave my truck keys and key card on the desk and my final check was on my desk. This is the respect I get after 37 years of service? Just show yourself out. Nothing more then my normal check, no thanks, and since you quit your not getting last years bonus even though the fiscal year ended in October. I was really disapointed with them. I guess it was time to move on.

FlintTony 01-11-2015 04:51 AM

Man, that's pretty crummy treatment after all those years.

Hank70SS 01-11-2015 07:01 AM

That does suck but seems the way things are now. When I got laid off after 37+ years it was via a phone call, they couldn't even do it in person.

Ken Hayes 01-11-2015 03:04 PM

Good luck tomorrow on your new job Ray.

I more or less got the same kind of shaft from my place after 34 years. Oldest guy there and been there the longest.......they did downsize, from 2 shops with 45 guys to 1 shop and 5 guys. That was in 2008, now they are still in 1 shop but have 30 of the old employees back and are workin 60 hrs a week.

shadowgray396 01-14-2015 08:09 AM

Day 3 of the new job. Lots to learn. Haven't been a rookie in a long time

flash 01-30-2015 08:25 PM

How is the new job going by now ?

shadowgray396 02-05-2015 02:25 PM

Starting to settle in some. Still lots to learn but getting more use to sitting behind a desk. Been outside or on the road most of my life. Hard to believe I have been here almost a month next week.

flash 02-05-2015 11:17 PM

Im glad you are getting settled in ,it a little after midnight here ,just got home from work ,we had one heck of a day ,broken water main for 3 dorm rooms .We had to put a temporary cap on a 6" fire line ,luckily the new guy working with me had friends that own a warehouse full of plumbing parts one county over .We went at 9 PM to get the temporary cap ,the owner met us there and opened up shop for 1 little 6" cap.

shadowgray396 12-25-2015 11:40 PM

Well it's been almost a year at my job. My boss just put in his resignation, I knew I was hired to replace him after he retired. If I get his job the 1st of March, I will be getting a big raise, but a lot more responsiblity. Wife say I can buy my new truck then. Lol. We will see what the higher ups decided. Either way I still have a job and like what I'm doing.

BillsCamino 12-26-2015 08:38 AM

Been three years since I retired...can't believe it's been that long already!!

Hoping you get that promotion Ray...

flash 12-26-2015 08:09 PM

Good luck Ray.

Ken Hayes 12-27-2015 01:27 PM

I know what you mean Bill. Been retired for 7 years and 4 months, but it feels like a few weeks ago.

Hank70SS 12-28-2015 07:06 AM

Good luck Ray.

Quadracer392 12-28-2015 11:19 AM

Good Luck Ray!!

shadowgray396 02-15-2016 12:02 AM

I get to fill out another application and hope I get a interview. Not going to be automatic move. Interviews won't be until the end of March. In the mean time I will be acting boss for a month or so.

paulywood 02-15-2016 07:19 PM

Sounds like you get a trial run. Good luck.

flash 02-15-2016 08:18 PM

Hope it works out for you .

shadowgray396 02-28-2016 08:51 AM

Become the interm boss starting March 1st, until the interviews happen at the end of the month. Most likely will be mid April before a decision is made.
