Across the US I go

Left Florida at 10 am. 5 hour late start. Headed toward I-10 route

BillsCamino 12-13-2014 03:32 PM

Have a safe trip Ray!!

shadowgray396 12-13-2014 06:55 PM

Sitting at the Alabama state line with dead stop traffic on the freeway. Plan was to make it Louisiana tonight. Total of 750 miles today. Ugh

flash 12-13-2014 09:11 PM

Be safe out there Ray .

shadowgray396 12-14-2014 12:30 AM

Finally made it to Baton Rogue at 1am Florida time. Been up since 5am. What a bunch of crazy drivers. The truck was like driving a large banana boat with a boat anchor behind it. Truck got about 8 miles to the gallon. Plan to get up a little later and do another 600 miles tomorrow.

BillsCamino 12-14-2014 07:49 AM

Boy, I know a couple great restaurants in BR...my daughter and her family live a little north of there, in Alexandria.
Driven that section of I-10 many times...hate it!! But I-20 isn't any better. At least you should start seeing cheaper gas prices.

Hank70SS 12-14-2014 07:53 AM

Sounds about like driving the motorhome. Wind, semi's push you around, you're always steering, get about 8 miles to the gallon. Don't over do it Ray, stay safe. I know how tiring it is driving the motorhome, no way I'd try to do 600 miles in a day, more like 400-500.

carpoor 12-14-2014 09:20 AM

I wasn't driving a moving truck, we did around 830 miles a day on the way up to Newton, Iowa from Florida in 2010. (Hot Rod Power Tour) It was brutal.

shadowgray396 12-14-2014 09:54 PM

Another brutal day today. Dallas was the worst. Raining hard, all the roads were under construction and everyone is doing 80. Best I could do was around 60 and try not to hit anyone. Headed toward Route 66 tomorrow in New Mexico. Got 581 miles in today.

shadowgray396 12-16-2014 07:35 PM

So far I have been in Florida, Louisiana ,Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah. Today's drive was so much better of a drive.

BillsCamino 12-17-2014 05:06 AM

Hate Texas...too damn long. ;)
You missed all the severe weather & tornado watches in Mississippi on Monday...

shadowgray396 12-17-2014 08:12 AM

Hit bad winds in Texas and New Mexico with large dark clouds. Yesterday the winds pushed the truck along. Headed to Idaho and will be in Oregon by tonight. Should be home Thursday.

shadowgray396 12-18-2014 07:51 AM

Just 3 hours from home. Over 3000 miles so far. I'll be home for Christmas rings true this year. We will have all the kids and Grandchildren in one place for the first time in 8 years.

Lol, Could have been home by 8pm last night, but with the baby and dog it was decided to stop. The fog was so bad last night I could not see 30ft in front of the truck at dark. Glad we stopped. Made it home by 11:30 today after we all slept in.

Glad you made it safely. There sure are some idiots out there. I'm getting where I despise driving anymore.

Hank70SS 12-19-2014 04:18 PM

Nice that you are home and have the family with you, enjoy the holidays.

Couldn't agree more with that statement. .45 ACP - don't leave home without it!

shadowgray396 12-13-2015 11:45 AM

A year ago I headed for Oregon with daughter and family in tow. Hard to believe a year has gone by.

BillsCamino 12-13-2015 06:27 PM

Look at the difference in weather all across your travel path this year compared to last year...
