Warning: Virus from Team Chevelle

Just a heads-up... I logged onto TC at work right at quitting time, and got some sort of bug I'm assuming came from there. :(

I killed it with Super Anti-Spyware, but not before it F'd up a bunch of stuff on the computer.

It popped up some scam that asks you to pay $50 to "update" an anti-virus software that you don't even have.

grandsport 03-01-2010 05:35 PM

I got it.:( But I ain't clicking on anything.

grumpy 03-01-2010 08:22 PM

Strange it did not do anything for me but I see its affected many over there. Probably something in one of the ads over there.

grandsport 03-01-2010 08:24 PM

I'm on my laptop at home now,it's fine.

chevguy65 03-01-2010 08:35 PM

I hope not to many folks were affected.

grandsport 03-01-2010 08:39 PM

Only on my computer at work.:p

I have AVG at work and McAfee at home,I wonder if that makes a difference?

Derek69SS 03-01-2010 09:29 PM

I read the big topic in the Bug Hunt forum about it on TC... seems it's in one of the advertisements on the site, so you'll only get it if that particular ad is displayed.

FlintTony 03-02-2010 04:45 AM

It hit me the other day. I had a hard time making it go away. My Norton kept saying it was there and I finally shut the computer off to make it go away. I hate the scum-bags that make those virus things.

FlintTony 03-02-2010 04:49 AM

I just went to the classifieds at TC. I clicked on the 55 Chevy for sale and a box from Norton popped up saying it just blocked an attemt to attack my computer. What a shame.

FlintTony 03-02-2010 05:00 AM

Same thing is happening at Team Camaro. Mabey all the sites the new owners have are infected.\

Steves Nova site is the same way, so the "Dons" site are all junk for now.

chevguy65 03-02-2010 06:58 AM

I feel for everyone that has been infected.

And on such a fine family site too:beer:

Thanks for the sympathy Carl.:p

chevguy65 03-02-2010 08:45 AM

Team Camaro is also infected..
Guess autoforums is on someones shit list...sorry but imo they are reaping their own shit.

Still I feel bad for the members that have to deal with their crap.

rak1 03-02-2010 09:41 AM

I got it too when I was looking in the parts section. I ran Stinger and it found a virus in details.dat file that AV deleted. I know it came from there because of the date on the file.

chevguy65 03-02-2010 12:49 PM

Stay away from all of them, I ended going back to team camaro and it got me good...took out half my dll files and I still may have to reformat the hdd.

Spent the past 2 hours in safe mode attempting a fix.

IMO autoforums should have taken the sites down until fixed instead of continuing to allow it's members to be infected.

Derek69SS 03-02-2010 03:16 PM

Yeah, I can't believe they'd leave it up to infect thousands of peoples' machines while they KNOW they have a problem. :(

grumpy 03-02-2010 03:43 PM

Virus are no fun at all. Its something that really should be on the top of someones priority list.

rak1 03-02-2010 04:09 PM

Kind of tells you what their priorities really are; it's all about $$$. That's the only reason I can think of to leave an infected site up; I hope I'm wrong.

grandsport 03-02-2010 04:21 PM

And you know it is fixed how?

Have they sent out an email stating it is safe to come back?

If not, I am not going back. I spent way to much time fixing their shit to go back before I get an official message stating that all is clear.

rak1 03-02-2010 04:31 PM

What did that ghost lady say on that movie in the 1980"s "All are welcome...." Here's where it safe; no banners!

Don't use that tone with me!:p

There was a post by Matt that it was fixed.

Highway Star 03-02-2010 04:40 PM

I haven't been online as much over the last few weeks. I've been at TC a few times, and didn't have a single problem. Could it be that since I run firefox and all the adware add-ons, that I missed the bug over there? I'll bet so. It shuts down on me every once in a while, but it ins't like IE was perfect or anything.

No ads in my webmail, no ads on youtube, heck, no ads anywhere. The virus was in an ad, right?

I am sorry, I did not mean to inflect a tone...please forgive.:ntwrthy:

Who is Matt? (In my most natural sounding voice)

chevguy65 03-02-2010 04:54 PM

I think you got lucky Jake.

Not certain it was in an ad but firefox will not stop a virus, I can show you if you like...lol

I think I will still stay away for a few days until I know it is gone...no way do I want to spend another half day fixing my pc.

I know just before I got infected I saw Java2 launch on my toolbar so it had something to do with an ad running Java.

BillsCamino 03-03-2010 03:50 PM

My Windows desktop computer detected the virus yesterday morning...running AVG subscribed version.
I shut the computer down and rebooted into a full depth virus scan. That took almost 4 hours to complete in which that time it successfully detected and killed the gremlin.
During that scan time, I freely surfed TC and other sites using my LINUX based Dell netbook.
No down time...:ntwrthy:

Chris R 03-04-2010 01:14 AM

I hit TC maybe once or twice a day and nothing on my end. However, with that said. S hit like this would never happen if Al were still running the site.

chevguy65 03-14-2010 09:16 PM

They are infected again...just stopped in to read about DDTURNER's 66 Chevelle and avast went off. It said it was connected to a fitnesssolutions.

My god, what the hell is going on over there?
They must have pissed of someone pretty bad.

This was with IE7, I may go back with Firefox and see if it gets through with ad blocker on.

I just wanted to watch his video and didn't get that far.

grandsport 03-14-2010 09:59 PM

I did not do it.Waving

chevguy65 03-14-2010 11:56 PM

Thank you for the link...nice 66 and sounds sweet!!!

You know I went over there with FF and got nothing but then just went with IE7 and was ok.

Here is the file I got though from avast...HTML: script=inf has been found in fitnesssolutionshb.com/photos/melookingdata

Maybe they removed the ad I don't know but just be mindful.
