OH NO.....

Hope you can get it into the garage. You will find the problem and fix it. Let us know what happened.

My neighbors came over we got him inside. It keeps popping through the carb, and cranking like a car that has a wet cap. Did it jump time?

Ms Grumpy 06-13-2010 08:39 PM

Grumpy and I were sitting here when I read him your first post and he made the comment that maybe your timing was off, then you post your last post.

Let us know.

Points or HEI set up in the distrubutor?

It sounds like timing, but it could be points.

How can a car jump time after running so great? I don't understand that.....

It has an Accel hei system.

I was driving it nice and easy tonight. It had sat for about a month and fired right up tonight. I am too tired to look at it now,at least it's in the garage.

That would be GOOD KARMA my friend.

Yes,we already thought of that!!!!

I agree it can only be one or the other. Also check the distrubutor bolt to make sure it is tight. If it's not tight your distrubutor can turn screwing up your timing also.

Glad you were able to put your car away.

It could have jumped time, but that is unlikely. Mike's advice will definitely rule that out. Otherwise, maybe the module in your distributor went bad, if it is an HEI, or maybe the cap has a little crack in it somewhere. It could be a lot of things.
To further Mike's advice about ruling out if it jumped time, pull the #1 plug, and rotate the engine around by hand until you feel the poof of air come out of plug hole. Then line up the mark on the damper with the timing tab. If the rotor bug is pointing at the # 1 wire, you're alright...and it is something else.

Have a spare cap and rotor? Maybe a spare coil?

I always seem to have bad luck with caps and rotors.Either the electrode that contacts the rotor will melt or will burn a small hole through rotor.Ive even had brand new ones only run for a short time burn out.The hard crank alway tips me off.
