Lightning strikes again

A month or so ago, we had a big lightning strike in the front yard. It fried my stereo and phone system in the garage. I got all that fixed or replaced. Yesterday morning around 5 AM, another big strike just outside the window in my computer room. Scared the living crap outta me! It fried my computer and the cat 5 cable that runs underground to the shop. I bought a new computer yesterday, today I am going to dig a 100 foot trench and install new cable. Should be a fun day.

Could have been worse Tony, at least it didn't hit the house and start a fire. How about going wireless to the shop? If you get a good router the signal should be pretty good in your office area. Who do you have for internet? We have AT&T and the router they supply has a really strong signal. It's in the basement and signal strength on the second floor is very good to excellent.

If you need any CAT5 cable or connectors let me know. I have a couple spools of CAT5 and a bag of connectors.

Thanks Hank. I went to Menards this morning and bought 120' of burial cable and a bag of ends. The trench is already backfilled. Waiting for the cable guy to come do his stuff now. The shop is too far away for a strong signal from the house. We have Comcast. I'm too damned old to be digging trench's.

Back in the saddle with a new machine, new underground, new router, sore back. This machine is a Dell. My other was an HP. Gotta get this one figured out now.

Yes, it is 7, I can't find the "send and recieve" thing on here. Do you know where it is?

Being involved with Audiokarma, I have learned that having a great surge protector on your computer can help alot. It has saved some very expensive pieces of audio equipment as well as computers.

I don't know know that much about having the lightening strike, but I think I would do as much as I could to protect my investments.

I hope that this is the last time that Mother Nature has it out for you.

Thanks Ms, I do have a surge protector on here. Apparently, the lightning struck the ground real close to my underground cable. The shot followed the cable to my computer and the router. The "internet card thing " is broken on the old computer. It won't go to the internet on the hard wire, only will go on wireless, The computer geek at the store said the main board was hurt too. I am really dumb when it comes to these things.
Mother Nature has kicked my ass a few times. I hope she's done too.

Not sure what you are talking about...is it from Microsoft outlook?

 Pretty bad luck.....might be a good idea for you to stay inside, sounds like the big guy has it out for ya.

I enjoyed the Dell we had until a virus or 2 ruined it.
