Hey all I searched around for a bit before posting this, but when looking around online for the period correct cowl inductionn hood and plumbing I'm not finding what I believe to be the proper setup. Does anyone who's done the conversion from normal hood to cowl and any advice to give? Thanks in advance ladies ang gents.

Finding NOS hood or a use Cowl induction hood will be more costly then a reproduction hood. Most 70's used a different hood than 71-72 cars used. The difference is in the underneath structure where the front hood insulation goes. There are late production 70's that used the later style. Earlier versions before late February 1970 were open along some parts of the edges were the hood insulation would go in that you would actually have to use glue to make the insulation stay in place. The later version after February 1970,the edges were closed through out the insulation pocket that you could just slip the insulation right in and the full edges would hold the insulation in place. Your 71 would be the later version. If the bottom structure of the hood is three pieces it is original, if it has just two it is a repro. Most people can not tell the difference.

Wow I'm learning so much form everyone. Ray that's great info I knew nothing about. I take it the one on Ausley's is the correct repro hood?

It is correct, all the vendors all sell the same hood. They buy them from the same manufacturer over sea's. I believe a place called Auto Metal Direct (AMD) in Ga claims to have USA made stuff. No matter what it's all going to take some work to make it fit correctly. Anytime you can go directly to a vendor to get it is better, that way you can look at it. Flash on here is in the area AMD.

Also having your hood hinges rebuilt is not a bad idea if they are original. Do not buy reproduction ones. This guy (Willie) is the only guy I would send them too, He did mine and did a great job.

AMD's parts are also made overseas but some are made on their own dies according to a source I know that works as a test fitter for AMD. If you live close to Ausleys ,Roger is a good guy to deal with and he keeps a lot of sheetmetal in stock. If you are closer to AMD they have a warehouse the size of a football field full to the rafters of parts for Chevelle, Chevy trucks, Mopar and more and have quite a few nice cars in their showroom.

Nice! The guy building the car is in Marion so maybe I'll stop by when I pick it up in April. I feel like a complete and total newbie (and I am) and I can't thank everyone here enough for being patient with my education. I owe you guys a beer or two.
