New "old" band saw for me
I bought an old Delta 14" wood cutting band saw Monday. Craigs list for 150 bucks. The wood saws are too fast for metal cutting, so I modified it. I made a jack-shaft to reduce the speed to 560, from 1400. I replaced all the bearings, refurbished the shafts, bead blasted the rusty parts, wire wheeled the small adjusters. Put a new bi-metal, 14 TPI blade on it. Relocated the motor Got it done this morning. Man, it works sweet. I called Delta tech guy and gave him the serial number. Saw was built in June of 1955.
All of the new parts that I bought came from Mc-Master-Carr. All the bearings, the shaft, the bearing supports, and pullies are made in the USA! I bought 2 bags of 100 count zip-ties that are made here too. Those guys have some cool stuff.
