End Speed Zone sign

OK. I have a question. We have been driving to a friend of ours place a lot lately. He lives near Leonard, Michigan which is a lot of farm land and out in the boonies. As we are driving the speed limit goes up and down as you get near the smaller towns.

Now in a couple areas the speed limit will be posted at 50mph, then it will drop to 35mph, then 25mph as you pass through town. Then as you drive away from town the speed limit climbs from 25mph, to 35mph, to 45mph then we come upon a sigh that says "End Speed Zone". What does that mean, can I go like a bat out of hell ? Are there no cops to pull you over for speeding?

I am not a stupid driver, I have seen many signs, but grumpy and I have had many conversations over this one and I thought maybe someone here would know.

Thanks that was helpful but I just don't understand why they don't just put up a speed limit sign. Maybe to confuse people, makes it easier for the cops to give out tickets. :)

Make since on the speed zone. Our signs read end 45 mph and then you can go back to the base speed.

If you're referring to the sign at the north end of the village at Gerst Rd., you're only 1/4 mile from my home. To answer your question, the legal speed limit on Mi. hwy's is 55mph unless posted otherwise, so when you see that sign on a contry hwy, 55mph is the speed. The speed limit from Rochester to Lakeville is clearly posted 50mph, but if you use that answer in the link 69chevelless sent, it could be taken that the speed on both sides of Leonard would be 50mph, not 55mph. I have asked this question to my neighbor (a State Trooper) before and that is the answer I was given.

I agree with you, why not just put up a sign that says 55MPH, they're the same size, shape, and color, uses less words, and is self explanatory. Next time you go through, hit your horn for a while and you just might see me waiving Waving
