question for anyone Re: manual choke

A friend of mine just put in a Holley spreadbore double pumper carb in my '70 Chevelle. He also installed a manual choke. It runs great but I'm having problems starting it in the morning. Any tips? The starter is practically brand new.

Give it a couple pumps, close the choke, spin it over. If it fires, slowly turn the choke off. It will take you a while to figure out how much fuel it wants. It will take a while to figure out how much choke to shut off when it starts. The choke will work like a fast idle when it starts cold. Good luck.

Thank you for the advice!

One quick question, albeit a stupid one maybe. 'Spin it over' = crank to start?

Thank you for the advice!!!!

Pretty sure that's what Tony meant. Pump the gas, close the choke and try to start it. If it's been sitting awhile and doesn't start right up, you may have to pump the gas again. The carb fuel bowls may be dry after sitting. Cranking it over will pump some gas into them. Don't pump it too much and flood the engine, it will take some time but you'll get use to it.

Hey Sam...No such thing as a stupid question. We all started somewhere. Hank is correct, when I say "spin it over", I mean see if it will start.
