sway bar and rear control arms

Greetings, I am new to forum and would appreciate your help on my 65 chevelle. My chevelle does not have a rear sway bar, lower control arms are not boxed. Looking for information to use front and rear sway bars and control arms from doner cars in the U-Pull recycle yards. I know all A-body types will work from 1964 thru 1972 but they are priced high. Will G body sway bars interchange? I have sway bars available from a 1970's pontiac trans-am. Will they interchange? What other sway bars will fit? I know about boxing my lower rear control arms using the kits available, I may do that If I can't find anything in the junkyars. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im not sure about the rear but Im pretty sure the front off the 70's T/A or firebird will work on the front.

That's correct John.

65-70 Impala used the exact same rear swaybar as a Chevelles. GM still sold the rear bars new a few years ago for ~ $120, but I think they may have been recently discontinued... they might still have some in stock though.

Later cars mounted it differently, to the bottom of the rear arms instead of to the side. With some creativity, you could figure out how to adapt it to Chevelle arms. I've never tried it though.

rear sway bar

Derek, thank you for the info. Do you know if a 70's trans am rear bar will fit the A body? What about G body cars, I understand that the control arms are the same, so the sway bars may fit? or not? Thank you, Stovebolt77

The 2nd Gen F-bodies are still leaf-spring, so the sway bar was mounted to the housing and had end links (like the front) connecting it to the body.

G-body mounted the bar to the bottom of the lower arms. I don't know it the spacing and angle is the same as a Chevelle though...

Derek,
Thank you for your information. My next step will be to measure my sway bar and rear suspension, then visit my Winston Salem Pick and Pull salvage yard and see what I can find.
Thank you, Stovebolt77

Were the rear sway bars a factory option on 68-72 chevelles? Part Number? Option Number? My racing class sez I can use a part if it was OE on the vehicle. Please help! Thanks

F41 option (which included the rear sway bar) became available on Chevelles in '69
