First time to the track (1/8th) with new 496

Finally got the car down the track for the first time with the new motor.

Broke a couple alternator belts today and the distribution block came disconnected from the battery but those were the only casualties of the day so I won't complain!

Drove the car about 50+ miles to the track on my MT ET streets, down the interstate at 80 mph, with the A/C blasting the entire way.

Today's DA was approx 2429.

First time down the track

12:52pm
RT - .620
60ft - 1.739
330 - 4.927
1/8th - 7.604 - 97.61 mph

Shook out the cobwebs, replaced a flipped alternator belt and went back out. (Best run of 3)

1:13pm
RT - .689
60 - 1.703
330 - 4.758
1/8th - 7.358 - 99.00 mph

Final run of the day was no better but seemed pretty consistent. Temps were getting rather warm

1:45pm
RT - .698
60- 1.704
330 - 4.776
1/8th - 7.368 - 98.90 mph

Car seemed to hook but was just not getting out of the hole hard or fast enough to get the 60' down. Could be just how I was leaving on the converter (leaving off idle), or not getting off the brake fast enough. Just need more practice!

Left the QA1 D/A front shocks full loose on rebound - tight on compression.
Rear AFCO's were set the same, loose rebound - tight compression.
Tires had 17 lbs.

Need to sort out an alternator belt that won't stay right side up but all seems good to go for next week at CB12 & Music City Raceway!

I have some Go-Pro video I'll load up once I edit out all the unnecessary recorded footage.

I would say I met my goals as all the calculators I found online seem to indicate this thing will go fast enough in the 1/4 to get my hand slapped by tech without having a roll-bar, which was pretty much what I was looking for.

Yes sir, wasn't too bad. Been to Brainerd a couple times but never to Paradise before. The burnout box is different (up the hill) but the track seemed to have decent prep.

Just bad, hot, muggy day to be racing.

Here's some video of the 3 passes

I definitely need to get some more seat time in this car at the track but for it's first time out, wasn't too bad

Eric looks like you had a great time. I will say that I have never seen a burnout lane that went uphill, and the trees all along the track were different for me. I showed my son the video and he asked how the camera didn't fall off the car. He thought it was cool, he got to go for a ride in a drag racing car. :)

Great video Eric!

BTW...that whole track runs uphill...been there. :(

Really ? So his car is even quicker.

BillsCamino 06-04-2012 06:21 PM

Having run Paradise track many times...Eric will run quicker at Music City next week.
Just be one of the first cars down the track Thursday night...it goes away fast. Your 2nd run will be the lowest ET.
I've run at both tracks many, many times..... ;)

good job man! thats an 11.4 second car! great job man!

carpoor 06-05-2012 11:00 AM

Congrats. Get that 60' down into the 1.5 range and you already have enough MPH in the 1/8 to have a high 10 second car.
