Used vehicle prices...
Yikes. I see a lot of overpriced junk. :( I am fixing a few cosmetic things on my 1996 Silverado, and was looking around online today so that I could put a fair price on it. (I need something with better fuel mileage - otherwise I wouldn't sell it) It looks like I need to up my asking price by at least $1000. Even after I sell it, I am highly concerned about finding a good car in my price range. Did cash for clunkers really have this much of an impact on the used car market? I know several people that either work for a dealership, or own a small dealership. They all say the same thing - they have a hard time finding good stuff to put on the used lot to keep it full.
I am only speaking for a 200-300 mile radius of where I am in Central Florida. But, I remember so much more being available even a year or two ago. |
The prices are high here as well, I got $1500 more than I expected for my 2008 Impala LTZ when I bought my new car last month, I thought I was going to have to really work to get $7500'for it and they offered $9000 first offer, and the car had $1000 damage to it and needed a windshield replaced.
But now I'm looking for a decent car for my daughter for school and they are high....no good cars in the 6-7 thousand range. |
fewer people buying new cars.... leasing is harder. it has all driven the decnt used car market up....

it is crazy my wife and i bought a 2007 calber and one dealership had it for 6900 and the one we got it from had it for 10,000 i showed him the listing for the one for 6900 and his jaw dropped! i told him beat it or we are going there. we walked out of there with the car for 6850 with free oil changes for 5 years or 50,000 miles and a whole bunch more! so the deals are out there just have to know how to get them

That is my plan, I am going to look at cars when I am ready. I already have a general idea of what I want. I am going to have a wad of cash in my pocket. I plan to make a fair offer, and if they counter - I walk. I cannot afford to overpay for a new daily driver. I feel that eventually I will find the deal I am after.

I have a 2008 Toyota Yaris that we have been considering selling, for a while now, to get a tow vehicle. I have about 34,000 miles on it and everytime I take it in the dealership is offering me a really good price to trade it in. They are actually offering me $5 grand less than I paid for it. I am kinda shocked that the value is that high on this car. But I also know that I average between 37-40mpg. It is an awesome little car and that is the only reason we have not gotten rid of it.

Last weekend I spoke to a friend of mine in the used car business. He said he has noticed a spike in used car prices again. He heard rumors about it being due to Sandy on the east coast. Apparently, lots of vehicles were destroyed in the storm.
Has anyone else noticed a similar trend in their area? |
