Driveshaft stripe colors and location.
Anyone got pics? And where do I get the paint?
|
What plant is your car from?
This list the stripe colors by plant http://chevellestuff.net/qd/70_drive_shaft_colors.htm Examples In 1970, both LS5 & LS6 w/TH400 stripes are Green & Orange Van Nuys 70 ss 396\350 m-21 11\d production date Pink-Orange-Orange If you have the build sheet, it should have the colors listed. On the 1970 build sheet, it's listed in box 19 (prop shaft). |
Baltimore.

I too have been on the search from proper paint. I don't want to have a pint mixed just to shoot a few stripes on my driveshaft. Hoping there are some duplicolor paints that are close enough.

Box 19 is one of the few I can't read. The only thing I can make out is an X.
|
I never knew they put stripes on the drive shaft ,learn something new everyday.

Gary, because of the quality of your Chevelle, you will want to first send your drive shaft to Quanta Products to have it polished back to smooth bare metal. The shafts were originaly painted with a brush on a lathe and they can do this for you.

13637 L34 M40 TK, Baltamore is the only plant to use a two letter designation, but after doing a search your drive line should be
"A '70 SS with L34, M40, April, Baltimore built car. Build sheet in box 19 says "TK". Nobody (here) seemed sure what the drive shafft colors should be. So...... I removed shaft and cleaned 40 years worth of grime off. Lo and behold I find (3) stripes !! From the front about 3/4 length back, Orange, Teal, and Black all in declining widths." Some had a couple of extra stripes on them, not sure what plants http://chevelleforum.org/picture.php...pictureid=3079 http://chevelleforum.org/picture.php...pictureid=3080 Hope this helps some. |
Thanks Ray,you are the best!
