Thank you, total stranger, for giving me a $100!
A guy came up in the beginning of January and put a $100 down on my '61 Bel Air. He hasn't come back for the car so that deposit, (as per my stipulations to him) is now mine and I sold the car to someone else.
I'm all for helping a guy out, but holding a car for a month on a $100 deposit is as far as I'm willing to go. Especially when two people walked up a few days later with cash in their hands and I turned them away. I even tried to e mail the guy a couple times and he never got back with me. Oh well. His loss, my gain. |
Sounds like you did the correct thing. Should be in writing no matter what. Hand shakes are not good enough these days.

Just like you won the lottery. WooHoo !

I was raised that a mans hand shake is his word and honor by my dad. I have made many a deal on a hand shake. Just to many people don't care anymore.

I still like the old hand shake .

Exactly how I deal. Example...I met and sold a guy a trailer of mine a week ago last Sunday. He paid in full by check but couldn't pick it up until last Friday. Even though I was going to be out of town (in Louisiana) all last weekend, we agreed that I would leave the trailer in my yard for him to pick up at his convenience. And I left the signed title in the trailer's toolbox. This guy called me Friday afternoon after picking it up...very pleased with our deal. |
