New toy!

Not exactly a Chevy. ....or a car. I must admit, I love Chevy hotrods. Particularly Chevelles. As far as trucks go, however, I'm a Ford truck guy. My favorite body style is '73-'79. Today I went and picked up my new shop truck. It's a '79 F350 wrecker. Twin booms and winches, dolly wheels so I can tow a vehicle with no wheels at all, and a 429 with a 4 speed. It needs some work, but we got it running after a 5 year hibernation. It sounds pretty darn good. I can't wait to get it back on the road. It should be fun.

Here it is after we loaded it on the trailer.

Are you married?

earthquake68 02-07-2013 08:18 PM

Yes, I'm married. To one of the most awesome women ever! She has her own hotrod. It's a '79 Corvette.

I own a hotrod shop and up until now, I've been using the brown truck in the pictures as my tow truck. I blew the engine up in that truck about 8 months ago and have been chugging along with it by keeping a large amount of Lucas in it.

The wrecker is going to be my tow truck and heavy hauler now, so I'm not so hard on the nice trick. The bed sides are rotted pretty bad and to make matters worse, someone did a shoddy job of patching them. My plan is to make new ones, do what little metal work the cab needs and reshoot it with quality paint.

The truck runs and drives now. I just have to go over it and fix what needs fixing. The master is seized, so I have some brake work to do anyway. I plan on doing all new fluids, tune up, flush the fuel tank, etc. I'm pretty thorough when it comes to the trucks. I've been in the situation where the tow truck breaks down before. ....and I HATE that! ;)
