1964 Chevelle Paint and body next

Well the car show season is over for now here in Arizona. It's starting to get too damn hot. I finally got around to removing all the stickers from the car. This alone made a big difference in the appearance. I will be starting the body work next.

Here is a before pic

I finally made some progress on the car this weekend. I've removed all the painted stripes and started on some bodywork.

The first hole I filled in was the old rear antenna location

I just cut out a patch to fit and welded it in place.

The next repair is on the back of the drivers front fender. This entire area was rotted away and fiberglassed in so it had to be removed.

Once I cut out the bad metal I ran into a big problem. My inner fender support is just as rotted away and will need to be rebuilt from scratch.

Yikes!

My lower rear quarters are rusted away and will need to be cut out and replaced as well. I need to buy the patches for these areas still

This weekend I was determined to figure out how I was going to get my trunk mounted again. When the car was tubbed all of the original hinge hardware and mounts were cut off to make room for the wheel tubs. This wasn't an issue when it was being raced since we just pinned on a fiberglass trunk lid, but now that I wanted my steel lid back on and hinged I had to design a new system.

I found some hinges off of a 2000 cavalier at the local pull a part. I really liked these hinges sine they were completely different from any normal rear trunk hinge.

Here are the hinges I pulled.

I made a pair of platforms that I could weld up underneath so the hinges would bolt right on.

As you can see my hinges are quite a bit closer together now. They are mounted 24.5" apart. LOL

It's hinged again!! WooHoo! These hinges also have the mounting balls for strong arm hydraulic lift supports. I hope they will be strong enough to hold it open. We shall find out in time. I used 3/8" Riv-Nuts on the ribbing of the trunk lid side to mount the bracket and they feel very strong.

I worked on the drivers side rear quarter panel today. Came across some funny findings as I poked a hole through the rust. Amazing how much crap fell down into this area and was lost forever until I cut it open. LOL

Here is my replacement panel. I'm going to cut what I need from this panel to do my repairs.

Here is most of what fell out. The yellow ball is my lucky fooseball which I lost over 20 years ago! haha!

Then after digging around some more I found this. It's an old shifter knob from my muncie.

Most of the bad area removed.
