Rear Shocks
Wanting to get my wife's Chevelle to a more drive able condition by her bday in June. Her rear shocks are air and lose air quickly so would want to replace those. Will ant to look into doing the window trim since apparently it leaks and also fix the windows and make sure that there isn't something draining the battery or if it's just cause it sits garaged all the time because it's not super reliable at the moment.
If anybody has some parts they want to get rid of cheap or advice that would be a great start. Plan on down the road doing something like this: http://umiperformance.com/catalog/in...roducts_id=548 as well as newer brakes and everything else until we can get it good to go. Then move onto putting a newer engine in it. I want to stay as sad as it sounds within $500 in the get it to be a consistently drive able car area. Then plan to start going crazy with it after I finish the stealth. Which is around 1500 left on her to be done done. |
How would these work?

You should be able to go to your local parts store and get a good quality gas shock for less than those .

If the back of the car need the extra springs on the shocks you might want to replace the original springs and put on a good set of Monroe shocks. The rear springs are very easy to replace and are not that expensive. The car should not need overload springs on it if the rear springs are good.

I agree with Ray, just put a good set of Monroe shocks on it. Shocks with springs are good for towing package. If you put those on for normal driving it will be a stiff ride.
|
Currently it's just air shocks. No springs (least that I recall). It leaks a lot and it's annoying. Don't really need to tow anything with it just want a nice ride that will handle well until can do coil overs or something down the road.

If the back of your car doesn't set level with the stock springs under it, time for new springs. It should have a set of springs under it I hope, not just the air shock holding the rear up.
|
If all you have is air shocks and no regular coil spring then its no wonder why they lose air. There is too much pressure on them. You cant ride with just shocks alone. Check again and see if you have coil springs on the rear.

This how I found one of my springs under my car when I tore it down
