Should they restore these cars ?
 

I am sure that we all made a big gasp when we heard about the sink hole at the Corvette Museum a little while back. And like most I was relieved when we were told that it looked like they may be able to get the Corvettes out and the likelyhood was that the cars would be restored.

Now they think that the damaged Corvettes are more of a draw to the museum and they may not restore them. I think that the cars need to be restored. What do you think ??

All they are thinking about is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ These cars need to be brought back to the condition they were in before the hole.

Once the cars are restored the value will go down. They are original only once.

Im not sure what I would do in this situation .

They do rotate the cars displayed in that museum.
Maybe display the cars damaged for now and then restore one at a time...displaying "Before and After" pics.

I know I'm a real "newbie" here on the board but to me it makes no sense other than perhaps the $$ signs in the eyes of the Corvette Museum powers that be to decide NOT to restore these cars. Possibly in the "now" time frame a lot of people with a morbid curiosity to see the "sinkhole Corvettes" would want to see them in their present ruined condtion. Jump to a "later" time frame, perhaps 20-25 years and what would the curiosity value be then, nil, in my mind. Liken that to finding a trashed out 1970 LS6 M-21 coupe in a salvage yard or hedge row, buy it and not restore it so that you could show it in it's present rusted, broken, trashed out state. Makes no sense to me at all. I thought that bringing these machines back from the dead is why we do what we do. Just my .02 cents for whatever that's worth.

Newbie or not we still like to hear your point of view. Just my 2 cents. lol :)

My question in this situation is if they let them sit for a year or two in their current condition. What more damage could be done by letting the the mud and clay and other gunk sit in it ? Could some things be saved if they were taken care of now ?

I would assume they will clean them up. They can find NOS parts to restore them and most likely will do it some time done the road. I know the value originally was because they were cars that had not been driven I believe or licensed. Repairing them will effect the value some what, but might add to the value since the were saved from the sink hole. I'm sure they will be restored just like the factory did them.
