Vacuum brake for choke
 

On my 283 w/2 barrel model 2GV Rochester carb it has a vacuum brake mounted, on the carb, is it a necessary part or can I eliminate it. It is a 1964 w/Powerglide. I live in North Carolina where the temp does not get real cold for very long if this makes a difference. Thanks for all your help.

Vacuum brake? Vacuum for the brakes. I am confused.

The vacuum brake is attached to the side of the carb on a bracket. It has a vacuum actuated plunger that is connected to the choke butterfly shaft. The vac brake has a vacuum hose attached to the base of the carb. It's hard to explain it when I don't totally understand it. It sounds like 4 barrel carbs don't have one of these things. I know most guys have 4 barrel carbs but this car is totally original except for Thrush mufflers and I'de like to keep it that way. At least for a while. Thanks again.

The brake booster can be moved to anywhere that has vacuum. More often they are mounted to the manifold. There is a plugged vacuum port on the manifold for it. Just have to get or make the correct fitting there. I say make I have a huge junk bin full of that kind of stuff to root through.
The vacuum pull off for the choke isn't necessary either It works fine without it.
So do what you need to to make it work. Brakes just need vacuum, just make sure the choke is adjusted once the pull off is eliminated if that is what the issue is.
Wish I could be there in person. We could fix what ever in 5-10 minutes.
