When we bought the car there was no belt on the A/C compressor. I figured, hell with 2 windows down and 60mph we don't need no stinkin A/C. Well this year we said screw it.......I installed all new belts and clicked on the air to Max. Heard the compressor click on but it wasn't really that cold comin out.

Found a friend with some R12 and got 3 cans from him. The POA valve was getting nice and cold and then stopped. Long story short, put in all 3 cans and still the same. Friend came over and looked around, stuck his hand through the hood hinge and grabbed the big nut on the POA.....LOOSE !! So 3 cans shot into the air for nothing. Tightened the nut and said screw it.

Today I got 3 more cans from the same guy. Put 1 can in and the POA was getting frosty.........good deal......I thought.........still about the same inside the car. Turned off the car and Judy said.....whats that hissin noise? Seems the high pressure hose that goes from the box on the firewall back to the condenser has a crack right near the fitting. Found a brand new hose on ebay from Old Air for $46.50...........hope this does it.

If the system has been open...it's gonna take more than just a recharge of Freon to get working properly.

If the system has been open...leaks, line replacement, loose fittings, etc...the complete system will have to be purged, using vacuum, to remove all moisture and contaminants.
We usually let it purge overnight.
Plus, some will recommend the Dryer be replaced.
And depending on compressor style, oil made need to be added too.

That's about all I know...got a buddy with the correct equipment that does all my automotive A/C work.

Aw Holy Crap, I was hoping for a easy fix. Thanks for the info.

I had my A/C installed last year and I think I have used it 3 times. It just doesn't feel right driving without the windows open.

We sometimes use the A/C in the vert with the top down .

I'm supposed to get the new hose either tomorrow or Monday. I found a guy that will evacuate, dry and convert it over to R134 and get it up to snuff for just under $100.00. This guy is a retired car builder and knows his shit. He comes highly recommended, so that's good enough for me.

Well the new hose came in. When I tried to install it I found that the metal tubing end that goes into the drier had 1 too many bends and was almost 2" too long. I called Old Air and I sent back the hose today for credit back onto my card.

Tom Lasater from Chevelle Club of Michigan had a hose from a Monte that he gave me, when I tried putting it on I noticed the metal end that goes into the expansion valve was a tad smaller diameter than mine so I didn't use it. Went to NPD yesterday and got the correct hose with O-rings and put it on last night. Gonna call Joe Giniel who has worked on my car and see what he'll charge to change over to R134.
