Knee replacement

Not me, Lynda. Went with her to see the ortho surgeon on Friday. She's had a couple of surgeries on her left knee to remove torn meniscus. They took an x-ray on Friday and compared to one from last November. The space between the bones is noticeably smaller, meaning a lot of the cartilage has worn away since then.

She's scheduled for surgery on 9/15. It's only the medial meniscus that's worn and causing pain so he hopes to only replace that joint. He said he would have a full replacement available and if he felt she would still have pain with only a partial then he would do a full replacement. Hope this works because she's having a hard time getting around.

Hope it all works out, will she make it to Frankenmuth this year?

Looks like will just be me and Henry. Annie, our dog is on her last legs. She's 14 and has CCD, Canine Cognitive Dysfunction, if she were human they would call it dementia. Many of the same symptoms, confusion, 'Sun Downers', wandering around at nite, banging into things, etc. We have her on several drugs that help but boarding doesn't seem fair to her in her current state.

That and Lynda really can't walk around the park or into town without being miserable so she's decided to stay home with Annie. Our daughter is coming here near the end of September, we'll let her see Annie one more time then probably let her go. It's a tough decision but it's not fair to the dog if she's constantly confused and anxious. Wish she could speak so you would have a clue what's going on in her head. As it is all you can do is guess and then try to decide what's best for her.

The knee replacement will probably be fairly easy for her with the physical therapy ,my boss just went through one and he was back at work in 6 weeks .The dog will be much harder to let go ,or it would be for me .I wish her the best on the knee replacement and hope the dog enjoys whatever time it has .

Sorry to hear about Annie, our English Bull Dog is starting to do weird things and is past her life expense expectancy and it will truly be the hardest thing I've ever done we have to let her go. It nice that you daughter will be able to see her one last time.

my father had his knee replaced. He gave up on the rehab of his knee so he is still using his cane. My grand father had knee replacement and completed his rehab in 4 months and he was back to normal

Hank sounds like you have a good doctor who is looking out for your wife in the long run. Even if she has the full knee replacement and has a little longer recovery/therapy time it would be better than her having to go thru the total replacement at a later time. And as we all know as we get older it takes longer and longer for our bodies to heal. Give her our best wishes for everything to go well.

My heart goes out to you with your dog. We just had to make the decision a few months ago to put our cat to sleep. He had feline leukemia, cat cancer, and had lost a lot of weight and was having trouble getting around. We were giving him IV fluids everyday for weeks. After taking him to the vet and talking to her, we decided it was best to put "Topaz" out of his misery. The morning before I took Topaz to the vet he came out of the bedroom and sat down in front of me and just looked at me. I felt like he was saying "I am ready". It was hard, but we all got to say goodbye. I am glad that you are waiting for your daughter to come and say her goodbyes.

Tell Lynda best of luck with the knee. I feel for you about your dog. Tough thing to go through.

My mother inlaw has had both knees replace and is going great now. Best of luck.

I know people who have had knee replacements and say it's the best thing they ever did. My mom on the other hand had both knees replaced and never followed through with the therapy on either one. Of course she blamed the Dr for screwing up and never was able to walk right. Lynda will follow through with the therapy even if I have to kick her butt up and down the driveway. I'm not worried though, I know she'll follow through.
