Sombody Pinch Me

The other day Judy and I were in the back yard talkin over the fence with a neighbor to the south. We were talkin about storage for the Chevelle and I told her that the place I've used for 2 years cut the number of cars stored from 50 to 25 and doubled the price. She said I should talk with my neighbor to the north son. My neighbor Stanley is a great 94 year old guy that has now been in a nursing home for over a year after falling and breaking his hip.

I called his son Jeff and asked if he was interested in renting out his Dad's 2 1/2 car garage. I told him about the storage place I used. I kinda lied and said that I paid $60.00 per month (actually was $75.00) for heated indoor storage. He said he would talk to his Sister and get back with me in two days. Well, today is two days and he called me tonight. He said he talked with his Sister and they both agreed..........he says to me, "here is our proposition to you". You can use the garage for as long as you like and the charge would be........keep the driveway clear of snow and maybe put a new seal on the bottom of the big door. He said you've taken good care of my Father from the time you've lived (15 yrs) here and there is no way we could accept any money from you. So I guess this rainy day has a silver lining.

That is a good deal Ken congrats.

My friend had a similar deal. But he used the garage to work on cars in. Old woman lived there and she paid to cut her grass. Well he did it. So he cut her grass and cleaned her drive in exchange for using the garage.

For me my car is fine now but I can't get it in and put without using a floor jack to spin it around some. I plan on building another garage out back once it is done for the truck and the chevelle. Building a garage is cheap compared to building the chevelle LOL.

Free is always a good price.

Ever heard the saying "What goes around comes around". You treat people the way that you want to be treated and now you are reaping those rewards. Plus it is a great way for the family to know that the house will look lived in thru the winter months. I am so happy for you Ken. And a bit jealous. :)

I could open up a spot as long as it came with driving priviliges ......................................

Well, so far its not as free as I thought it would be. Cost me $104.95 for a 2" universal under garage door weather seal with tract. (and a bitch to install by yourself) It still had a 1/2" gap towards the sides, so another $74.69 for a rubber threshold that glues to the cement floor. At least now the snow and critters cant come in under the door.

Door is all done....no light showing under door when closed. I put down some heavy duty visqueen on the floor to keep any condensation from coming up.

We are getting 2 new pieces of carpeting for our basement, so I will put what we have down there now (1pc. 12'x20' and 1pc. 10'x16') in the garage for the car to sit on. Will probably put the car in the garage on Sunday for long winters nap.

Sounds like your car will be nice and cozy this winter. $105 and labor doesn't sound too bad. If you can use it next year too, even better. I have to leave 1 car outside in the winter so the Chevelle can remain inside. It's not that bad, just a pain when trying to clear the snow away.

Maybe I should talk to my neighbor Darrel. He had a new 2 car garage built to keep his Chevelle in. All he has in there is the Chevelle so there's room for another.

It is funny how free is not so free Ken. But well worth it. I just paid $360 for my cars 6 month slumber. But for me it is well worth it.

I did have someone tell me that he had gotten a deal like yours, the only problem was that he went over to check on his car and the owner of the house had used his car to store things on. Ouch.. Hope your deal works out better.
