64 convertible guide pins necessary ?

Had an unhappy experience with a company that installed a new top on our convertible. Messy work, charged $200.00 more than quoted and a top that requires 4 linebackers to engage the guide pins. I have made all of the possible adjustments for moving the frame forward to ease engagement of the guide pins including the rear hinge bolts, the front latch plate bolts and the guide pins themselves. What works is if I remove the guide pins and then I can get the latch handles to easily engage the j Hooks that hold the top down. My question is, can I safely operate the car at 60mph without the guide pins in place ? Thank you again. This forum is my safety net walking the hire wire with a 50 year old car.

I would not do that. Take it back, talk to the owner and have him operate the top and see what he says.

I agree with Ken. I woundn't drive it at high speeds without those pins. Did you have any issues with it prior to the work ?

Guide Pins

No, never had a problem before with guide pins. Unfortunately, I don't want to leave the car with this company again. I think I will contact the maker of the top to see if they have another dealer that I can talk to about releasing top tension. Thanks again. New Bern, NC.
