68 Malibu Convertible- under dash part
 

Hello,
New to the group. Can anyone tell me what this part is? It fell out from under my dash as I was working on replacing bulbs in the panel. Also, the column shift indicator does not move off of park. are they related??

It is a shim. there are 2 metal post coming down from the upper dash. The brake/clutch assembly and steering column meet. Look there you will see more. It gores between those parts on the rod.

It didn't fall out. It was lost when whoever assembled it. And it finally fell out.

AH, thank you. I did lower the steering column to get to the back of the dash panel. should I try to wedge it back in? what is it suppose to line up with?

Just look at the other side. the 2 parts are at 2 different angles. Hence the wedge shape.
