A streetrod builder called DV
Gentlemen,
I have spent 40 years building custom cars and streetrods. I have posted the following letter at "Hot Rod" magazines page a Hot ROD FORUM and now here as required by a friend who threatened me with great bodily harm if I did not post this here. What you are about to read is a true 40 year collection of a great guy. Even though he never build a car (that I know of) his Hobby was just MUSCLE CAR MOTORS. What follows is the true story of how this estate sale came to be. It will go on sale in approximately three weeks. ( I have to get the motors to my shop, get them cleaned and magna fluxed before I will sell any motor!) And now...the rest of the story: I am going to save the long story for whomever wants to hear it but this is the results. I have been appointed Executor of a large collection of GM early 60's to 69's and very early 70's HI-PO motors. All motors were taken out of their respective cars at the time. The collection consists of few 70's 350 Hi-Po' with smog pumps (Novas?), at least three 409's, at least 4 or more 427's, 4 or more 454's, three 396's, or more! Unknown number of Z' 302 motors*. All motors were pulled from the respective cars in the 60's and early 70's. None of the blocks have seen any machine work at all! Most of these motors ARE 4-BOLT MAINS. Another story, my crew and I will be picking up all the motors, transmissions, tools etc. from the THREE garages they have been stored in in a couple of weeks. All motors will be brought to my shop in Pentwater, Mi., cleaned up and magna fluxed. A record of work done will be certified and given with each motor along with all information available, I.e.; Car / model they came, mileage of the car the motors where pulled from. A full notarized receipt to the new owner along with receipt from me as the EXECUTOR of this sale. Goal #1: To sell the entire motors as one single package. One week will be given for this sale (Auction?). After a week goes by - Goal #2, If it comes to be individualized I will sell the motors as singles or in packages. All proceeds WILL go to the Widow of the estate! I have ordered the proper GM books to I.D. all the motors/numbers of each block. Thank you for your time reading this. If you are interested in the "rest of the Story" feel free to contact me at " [email protected] " http://www.clubhotrod.com/photopost/...m/P4050012.JPG Or I can be reached (EST) 231-869-4680 * It was impossible to inventory all the motors due to time, lighting and help at the time to move each one out in the open! Thanks for allowing a new guy in! DV |

An update:
Right now, confirmed 302'S, 350 Hi-Po motors, 348's, 396's, 409's, 427's, 454's. Multiples of each motor. Factory OEM Aluminum intakes for numerous motors.(Most motors have 4 Bolt Mains) The motors and related parts plus all the tools etc., will be in my shop in Pentwater on the 16th of May. All motors and related Heads will be cleaned. No machine work on any motor has been done! None will be done. The motors will be available for inspection for one week then bids will be taken for three days for an entire package. A Silent reserve is held in private. Bring your own GM books and Mic's. If by chance you might be flying in, Muskegon, Mi. is the airport and I will make arrangements topic you up. |
AN unknown Motor ?;
All motors are in Pentwater! I now have 4 of Colvins books, ALMOST all motors are identified.... but here is one for you, Small block Chevy., Aluminum factory intake with the Canton, Oh "Snowflake" casting in place as well as "GM". Casting number is placed as it should be: A GM is cast in a raised sq. prior to the casting number. Colvin does NOT list this casting number in either the "Chevrolet by the numbers,", NOR in his Corvette by the numbers books. The production date is J306 - 10/30/'66 (?) Anybody have any ideas? I'm stumped. DV OOps!,forgot to list the casting numbers!: Top of the block- right of distributor 14093627 (?) CASTING NUMBER: 141001074 Also, for what it means-Left side of the block, left side of the casting #is a large 'GM' cast into a raised square then it has 5.0L8 ???? These numbers and locations have been checked and rechecked! |
Welcome DV,
This is one of the coolest stories I have heard in a long time. Thanks for sharing. Ms Grumpy |
Mortec lists the 14093627 as a 87 - 94 305 block. Colvin's books only go to around 75. The 5.0 also confirms a 305, the engine size was also cast in liters on later blocks. The casting date is probably 1986 not 1966 and be correct for 1987 model year car.
Don't know about 141001074, where is that casting number from? |
Hank70ss,
Thank you. 141001074 is cast into the Manifold. Motor is still assembled care to quote a cost/value to this motor? DV Aluminum intake or not can't imagine 305 carrying much value? |
