'Tis the season!
Mary and I are thinking about planting some new trees in the backyard. What's a good tree that looks nice but doesn't cause many problems with their roots, etc? Any suggestions would be great.

We planted a red oak and a crabapple tree in the back. Not supposed to have problems with exposed roots as we did our research. Just spent a ton taking out a silver maple that ruined the grass and top soil.

Thanks for the advice Gary; I think we'll go with a Red Oak.

Them freakin' maple trees got them helicopter things.:(

I like oak trees, we have a couple of red oaks. Only thing I don't like is they refuse to drop their leaves in the fall. They keep coming off over the winter and can kill the grass.

We bought two Red oaks yesterday. Once again thanks everyone.

My wife really wants a red-bud. I hear they need some protection from the winter winds. I guess we could but it behind the house, that would block the west winds and the gazebo would block the north winds.
I would like to get one of those Japanese Maples, cutleaf maple. I seen different names for them They have very fine leaves, almost look like marijuana, they turn a deep crimson red. They're pretty delicate trees though and need protection. We had one at our other house, I was tempted to dig it up and bring it here. |
