Scary storm

I know that we haven't gotten the rain and flooding that others have, but this storm coming thru here right now is scary as hell. I have a weeping willow in the back yard that is probably 100 years old, and probably 50-60+ feet tall. Winds are gusting to 60+ mph. And that tree is dancing.

A few winters ago, when we had a bad ice storm, a piece of that willow came thru the roof of the house, right above my bedroom. It was scary then, and it is scary now.

I hope that it passes, but I will keep my fingers crossed.

Its been a year of weird weather all over the country. Hope everthing turns out ok. I wonder if all that ash from the volcano erruption early has change some of the weather patterns this year. I know when Mount Saint Hellens errupted the weather was effected by the ash that year. All the particals in the air allow the rain drops to form on them and a wetter year is what we had.

Well it's morning and I think we did OK. The willow is still standing, as far as I can see. Just a few of the branches in the back yard. Haven't checked the cars in the driveway yet, but they looked OK. The Chevelle and the Jeep are not here, they are at brothers shop, so as soon as I hear from him, I will let you know.

I hope others are OK too. I know that some of the cities around me did not do as well. I heard about one woman who was killed when she was driving and a tree fell fell right in front of her car and she couldn't stop and ran right into it. Another family lost their home when it was hit by lightening, luckily no one was home. Power outages all over. So I think we were pretty lucky.

Blew through here pretty quickly last night, power went out 30 seconds after it hit. That sucks because it was hot and humid, no AC.

I see a few branches down but we have so many trees we get downed branches if someone farts. Fortunately nothing major. Power still out, no info when it will get fixed. They said 100,000 without power in Oakland County, around 180,000 total in SE MI.

When I used to live in Ohio, the worst microburst I've ever experienced passed through my neck of the woods. It was a violent wicked thunderstorm, with high winds 70+ and sideways driving rain. Before it really started up, you could feel it, I guess kind of like animals can feel a storm. Knocked down trees, blew down sheds and roofs, and powerlines, etc. That was nuts. The brids were chirping 15 minutes later. Think you guys had a microburst up there?

I have to say though, nothing compares to the hurricanes around here...for me personally. I like the study and observation of weather. Wow. Sustained 80 mph winds for 6 or 7 hours from the east, then the eye of the storm, then 80 mph sustained winds from the west for 6-7 hours as the other side of the storm passed over. Right at my house. Holy crap.

They said on the weather this morning it was some kind of front, don't remember the name, that only happens every 5 years or so. Straight line winds can get up to 100 mph, I don't think that happened yesterday but it was nasty.

Still no power.

Well, latest update is we'll get power between 11:30 tomorrow night and 1:30 Monday morning. Had to go fill 3 gas cans today, borrowed one from the neighbor across the street, of course they have power. Gas for mower and gas to keep thie generator running. Generators are great but they're not cheap to run.
