I have to tell you about an experience that David and I had at the Secretary of State office (could be called many things in many states, it is Michigan's office to get license plates, drivers licenses etc) a few weeks ago. We were waiting for out number to be called and here comes this gentleman in his 50's, pushing this little old lady in a wheelchair. Come to find out it was his mother (well he called her mom). She was coming in to renew her drivers license.

The representative behind the counter asked the little old lady if she could stand up so that she could sign the form. The gentleman attempted to help the lady out of the chair, after they tried for a couple of minutes, the representative put the paperwork onto a clipboard and handed it over the counter for her to sign.

Then the representative asked the little old lady "if her condition would inhibit her ability to drive?".

WHAT???

She couldn't see the paper in front of her, she can't even get out of her chair, and she is older than god. What do you think??

God I hope that she is never on the road behind me, or my mom, or my friends who own some beautiful classic cars, or any of my kids or anyone !!

How do we determine when someone should not be able to drive?
