I'd be making sure the undercarraige is in good shape. You can checkout this site:
http://www.chevellestuff.com/ for good info on which questions can be answered from the VIN and cowl tag...like engine size, interior, etc.
Otherwise, post as many more pics and questions here as you can.
Possible signs of SS pkg include rear sway bar, boxed control arms, etc.
